KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role will require the candidate to demonstrate a systematic and disciplined system design and programming approach following a standard software development lifecycle. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Development Manager, Project Manager, and a team of developers. The application interfaces with the DB through Java and C#/.Net framework and hence an expertise on Core Java and related technologies coupled with working knowledge on Oracle and C#/.Net would be preferable.

Technical Roles and Responsibilities

· Expert in Java and its related packages and technologies (Java 1.6) to help develop software applications.

· Excellent skills in relational databases and fluent in SQL queries, including proficiency in fine tuning queries used by the application.

· Design, Code, Unit Test and support Software components

· Deliver quality software in a time following standard software development processes

· Analyze problems raised in software development or production environments and provide timely solutions

· Develop, prepare and maintain system documentation, including program descriptions, flowcharts and operational procedures.

· Act as the second line of support during production problems.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The role requires good experience in development of Financial Markets systems using Java and Oracle technologies. Alternatively, experience of developing risk engines for a leading software vendor in the banking and financial services space may be acceptable. Good knowledge of derivatives and fixed income products, market data, and risk processes and methodologies would be preferred.

Technical Knowledge

· Solid skills in Core Java, Spring, Hibernate, Collections, JDBC etc. Experience/exposure to J2EE would be preferred but not essential.

· Good knowledge on PL/SQL on the server side.

· Java certification preferred but not essential.

· Experience of working on Xstream, POI, JfreeChart, Log4j, Quartz and Oracle AQ would be preferred.

· Experience of working in three tier architecture. Must have Websphere/weblogic or other application server experience

Preferred Domain Knowledge

· Good Market Risk domain experience preferred. Domain knowledge on financial instruments and derivatives, trading and risk management, market data, and market risk processes and methodologies.

· Good understanding of risk measures, risk analysis and reporting.

· Knowledge of at least one specific asset class / line of financial instruments would be valued.

Other Preferred Skills

· Strong analytical & problem solving skills with experience to perform data mining and analysis of issues, identifying root causes, support production queries etc.

· Good communication skills in both written and oral English.

· At least 6 years of hands on experience working in a bank or Financial Institution.

· Experience in development in Financial Markets domain in general, and risk area in particular would be an added advantage. Candidates who have worked developing risk engines for software vendor in this space would also stand good chance of getting considered for the role. Good knowledge of derivatives and fixed income products, market data, and risk processes and methodologies would be highly desirable.

· Ability to be organised and multi-task on different requirements across various stakeholders, and to work independently and under pressure.

· Cultural sensitivity and awareness to work with a range of people from diverse background and geographies.

· Should have a technical or numerate degree in subjects such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Economics, advanced degree preferred.
