Application Engineer China Job description

Job Summary

The application engineer will be responsible for deploying Sciemetric test systems at customer sites throughout China and the Far East. The job will involve the use of our proprietary electronic signature analysis techniques and In-Process Testing technology to understand manufacturing process behavior and help customers find defects in their manufacturing processes. Typical duties will involve creating custom applications using Sciemetric’s own application software to acquire, process, and analyze data from analog and digital instruments, measuring devices, and gauging equipment , then apply it to new or existing manufacturing equipment on a machining or assembly line. The application engineer will be assigned to a project from the start of application development (programming) through to debug and commissioning on the end customers floor. The job will require significant amounts of travel (up to 50% of the time).

Typical duties

· Travel to customer site to deploy and commission Sciemetric test systems in an manufacturing environment. (Customer base is mainly automotive but can include medical, electronic, or consumer products).

· Program and configure application software to collect and process data from instruments such as load cells, pressure transducers, linear and rotary encoders, measurement lasers, and accelerometers.

· Apply the appropriate filtering, smoothing and data processing, and statistical analysis techniques to identify key features in a customer’s manufacturing process to allow them to find defects and or anomalies in their parts.

· Interface Sciemetric hardware (PC based) to communicate and extract data from third party devices, PLCs, measurement systems, and bolt tightening equipment, using various methods such as field bus (Profinet, Ethernet I/P, Modbus) , file transfer (FTP), serial Comm. and other data transfer schemes.

· Setup and configure Sciemetric data management host server (Qualityworx) to store test results from plant floor data acquisition systems.

Candidate requirements

1. Experience with common data acquisition systems such National Instruments Labview, HBM or others.

2. Previous hands-one experience with a structured programming language such as C or Visual Basic.

3. Familiarity with typical manufacturing test process, for example – leak testing, gauging, engine Hot or Cold testing.

4. Experience using and applying instrumentation and sensors such as pressure sensors, load cells, accelerometers, linear and rotary encoders, torque transducers, LVDT’s, Piezo electronics

5. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

6. Engineering degree – preferred Electrical or Mechanical.

7. The ability to work unsupervised.

8. Very good English capability. Could read the original English materials, could speak English very fluently , listen well , write smoothly , and able to communicate with foreign colleagues easily .

Desirable Attributes

· Prior experience with troubleshooting and calibration of instrumentation and sensors.

· Experience working in a high volume manufacturing environment.

· Knowledge of petrol or diesel engine testing techniques (hot test, cold test, fuel injectors, ECUs).

· Experience with the manufacture or testing of medical devices

· Working knowledge of queries and procedures on Microsoft SQL databases
