Operations Manager, Kindle Content
Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary reading device and one of the most innovative businesses at Amazon. We envision wireless electronic reading experiences that embrace a physical book's simplicity and utility but take advantage of our store platform and the Kindle's ubiquitous wireless connectivity. The Amazon Kindle team is seeking a Content Operations Manager for our Content Risk Management team in the Kindle Books Operation.
Responsibilities:
? Lead and supervise a team of content specialists.
? Drive new process creation and process improvements.
? Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and serve as a role model to employees.
? Accountability for setting and meeting team operational goals.
? Assign and direct work, appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, resolve problems, and address staffing needs.
? Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) development and roll-out, especially related to new process creation.
? Leverage technology and process innovation to bring continuous improvement to the operation (scalability, efficiency, scope, etc).
? Keep pace with our growth while motivating others to meet the challenges of an extremely deadline-driven environment.
? Work under the mentorship of the Content Risk Management team headquartered in Seattle.
Basic Qualifications:
? A passion for books and reading.
? Strong oral and written communication skills.
? Bachelor’s degree is required.
? 4-6 years management experience in publishing, customer service, user testing teams, or similar production environment with a demonstrated history of delivering innovative solutions to operational issues.
? Management of a minimum of 5 employees (including payroll, performance management and work-flow assignment).
? A proven ability to identify new areas of opportunity and invent processes to address those opportunities using expertise in disciplines such as business analysis and process engineering and scaling with software/automation.
? Ability to speak to performance metrics (how, when, who).
? Demonstrated ability to be successful in a highly fluid, fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
? Fluent in Chinese and English.
? Ability to travel to the US on occasion required.
? Willingness to create processes to manage some explicit and adult content (amongst other risk types).
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
? Demonstrated history of developing employees to take on higher levels of responsibility.
? Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma.
? Experience automating a complex process.
? Experience managing in a tight Service Level environment.
? Understanding of copyrights and the publishing industry.
? Exceptional level of dedication, motivation, and intelligence.
? Strong technical and analytical aptitude, including knowledge of statistical tools and a history of working with engineers to deliver innovative solutions.
? Experience working in startup and internet technologies is preferred.
? Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to get things done, This can include:
? developing functional requirements to create new tools or refine existing ones, with a focus on transaction automation.
? constructing data-driven analyses of new problem spaces.
? developing business cases with policy and/or implementation recommendations to handle new risks, including scaling with software.
