Location: Sarnia Manufacturing Centre, Ontario, Canada


Responsibilities:

The Production Manager delivers outstanding short-term and long-term business results and is responsible for the safe and consistent delivery against the site production targets and within the site’s license to operate . As a Site Leadership Team member, the Production Manager contributes to the development of location tactics and strategies. This manager must work collaboratively with others to deliver results and must reinforce those same expectations with the departments in their Production reporting lines. The Production Manager must have strong coaching and leadership skills and establish strong working relationships in a unionized environment. The Production Manager assumes the responsibilities of the Sarnia GM during GM absence.

$ 35M (excl. Variable costs) Budget
12 Production Units
200 total reports including 5 direct reports, 24/7 operation
Deliver Production results as agreed.
Production goals are met without compromise of HSSE performance, asset integrity and in compliance with regulations, Group policies and standards.
Products meet the expected quality set by the Business team.
Expected asset reliability is delivered and maintained through time.
Expected asset utilization is delivered subject to feed availability.
Energy efficiency performance and Green House Gas emission reduction targets are met.
Healthy and constructive relationships are maintained with the hourly unionized workforce such that they are personally engaged and invested in delivery of site goals.
As part of the TA work process:
o Resource the production scope development efforts
o Identify long lead time scope items for the TA team
o Approve turnaround work scopes
o Deliver decontaminated equipment according to schedule
o Prepare and deliver flawless shutdowns and start-ups
Deliver Production strategies and tactics that improve site performance.
Communicate business priorities that drive the organization to deliver short term and long term performance.
Production employees perform their roles within Ensure Safe Production (ESP), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Maintenance Excellence (ME), Instrument Protective Functions (IPF), Managing Threats to Availability (MTA), Asset Integrity Process Safety Management (AIPSM), and Turnaround (TA) work processes.
Reliability improvement strategies are implemented across the site.
Cost leadership approach is applied to Production operation including the execution of Lean tactics.
Provide input to development of Carbon dioxide (green house gases) and energy improvement plans.
Capital project development is supported with competent resources through design, construction and flawless start-up.
Plays a key roles in delivering product quality, the hydrocarbon management plan, business risk management, managing costs, and margin improvement.
Collaborate with Site Leadership Team members to allocate resources
Sponsor, and sometimes lead, multi-discipline teams needed to complete tactics.
Represent the site as a leadership team member in community and industry meetings.
Establish and monitor effective business controls.
Statutory requirements and HSE regulations are followed by Production employees and compliance monitored.
ESP limits are established and followed for the facilities.
Initial response is provided for emergencies and abnormal operating situations.
The Production Manager acts as Deputy Incident Commander in the ICT and is backup Incident Commander.
Management of Change is monitored to ensure proper completion prior to executing changes.
Process safety barriers - IPF systems, relief devices, other safety systems, etc. are maintained and properly operated.
Critical barriers identified through HEMP are communicated to employees, monitored and maintained.
Ensures succession planning and talent management for the Production department.
Driving multiple production units to implement similar work processes and practices.
Managing Safety, Process Safety and Environmental aspects across multiple production units.
Driving improvement strategies (example: reliability) that have been created in conjunction with other departments.
Establishing and communicating business priorities – often across multiple businesses.
Establishing continuous improvement targets that may not be readily accepted.
Prioritising maintenance and reliability spends.
Change management and leadership to ensure successful implementation of changes required for Sarnia's 2015 organization.
Act as back-up for site GM.
Incident Command Team responsibility including 24/7 ICT pager coverage

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than their current employer.
15+ years diverse leadership experience in complex Petrochemical environments.
Bachelors degree in Engineering/Technical discipline preferred.
Competency in crisis management, e.g., emergency response, health and safety, HSSD management systems and risk management.
Previous experience in a unionized facility an asset.
Required to respond to site operating issues in off hours.
Experience managing a production team to deliver production.
Strong Mentoring and coaching experience of direct supervisors.
Demonstrated experience leading change and continuous improvements.
Demonstrated skill at delivering results through others while inspiring, empowering and ensuring accountabilities.
