Responsibilities:

Based in Calgary,multiple roles may be available at senior and junior levels. The role will have significant site interaction while also maintaining considerable interaction with development groups,and with global Shell projects and technology resources to ensure alignment of mid-term initiatives with broader strategies.

This position reports to the Manager within the Process Technical Services group.

This position is an excellent leadership and development opportunity for process engineers seeking exposure to Heavy Oil,one of Shell’s key areas of growth globally. As a Calgary based role with significant exposure to Albian operations and long term projects,the role provides a strong basis for further career progression in Heavy Oil technical,operations,planning and project management areas.

Principal accountabilities include:
Provide process engineering support to Shell Albian operations in areas which may include ore preparation, extraction, froth treatment, tailings, water or utilities. Your assignment may support any of these particular areas depending on your skills & competencies, interests, and current site priorities.
Provide leadership and technical skill for effective delivery of specific improvement initiatives. This may include resolution of troubleshooting items as well as support for strategic initiatives. In both instances you will drive front end development and design of new projects as well as provide process support to execution phase of other new projects.
Develop and actively progress mid-range strategy for the key Oilsands plant processes you support. This may include overall priority management, opportunity realization and continuous improvement projects which must integrate with site technical and long term development.
Frequently provide front end process engineering input to site-originating projects, including provision of ongoing coaching, mentoring, and technical assurance.
Occasionally work with site personnel to complement their short term/contact engineering role. This may include process monitoring and analysis, specific project commissioning, test runs, or critical priority initiatives that require greater onsite presence.
Maintain high quality and effective relationships with colleagues in operations, maintenance, planning, mine, process technical services, Project and Debottlenecking teams, and Shell research and consulting groups.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mining, or Hydrocarbon and Mineral Processing Engineering
Previous technical experience in oilsands or mining operations.
Individual must be comfortable working in a multitask environment
Must be able to work well with operations personnel in order to achieve objectives
Skilled in the technical analysis and optimization of Oilsands operational processes, which may include ore preparation, extraction, froth treatment, tailings, water and utilities.
Skilled at providing process engineering support to process operations, including ability to provide troubleshooting assistance, process analysis and assessment, mass and energy balancing, hydraulic assessments, etc.
Skilled in process control and safeguarding, including specifying protective systems and hazardous area classifications, and identifying and evaluating process hazards
Knowledge or skill in coordinating and driving the front end development and design of new projects, or ability to steer them through Shell project phases.
Skill in addressing specific localized issues while assessing overall system-wide implications in a complex operating plant.
