Responsibilities:

These new roles are intended to support Groundbirch and the associated NE BC assets in developing regulatory frameworks that will enable the venture to develop efficiently toward a “manufacturing” mindset, and with approaches that ensure Shell remains a welcome presence in the region for decades to come.

This includes:

1) Working with the Regulator on emerging regulatory frameworks for applications, approvals and permitting as well as regulatory issues relating to Power (generation and transmission) and Roads and similar infrastructure that is shared across industry.

2) Develop and operationalize a program to manage cumulative impacts of multi-industry / multi company activities to local stakeholders and to the environment during the full life cycle of the Groundbirch asset by developing an understanding the potential cumulative affects of the Groundbirch development plan on the valued ecosystem components (VECs) identified by our stakeholders; developing effective and practical measures to prevent/mitigate/off set identified potential affects; and develop, use and communicate externally key performance indicators to monitor ecosystem health on an ongoing basis.

Work scope may include support to additional projects / assets based on business demands. The Canada Env/Reg teams are responsible for delivering approvals for permits / licenses,supporting growth in Shell Canada's onshore gas and light oil, deepwater, insitu heavy oil, exploration, and all commercial developments including LNG facilities. In every case, a key function is helping ventures make well-informed decisions to effectively manage risks in new projects and minimize impacts from development activities.

The successful candidate must have the ability to think strategically rather than tactically and facilitate strategic advice from the Env/Reg functions to venture leads at early stages of project development.

Initial focus is intended to be on supporting Shell assets in NE BC including Groundbirch and additional exploration and development in NE BC. The new positions are to closely coordinate with an existing env/reg team that currently supports all applications for pipelines, facilities and wells for the asset --- and are being added to allow focused effort on longer term strategic issues rather than delivery of permits on a day to day basis.

Must be able to provide robust business and financial context to the functional recommendations.

Must be comfortable with developing new ways of working and being a champion for change.

Able to understand the design of the matrix support organization and work within the boundaries to provide seamless support to the businesses in concert with other support functions.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than their current employer.
Requires Bachelor of Environmental Science, Bachelors of Environmental, Chemical or Civil Engineering, or other relevant Bachelor’s degree.
10 - 15 years experience in HSSE – Environmental skillpool or equivalent experience, preferably in the E&P industry
