Job Description
Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) is a high-performing, global business with an array of technologies that are changing the world for the better. It also develops and sells catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, process plants and technical services.
The Asia Sr. Project Accountantant role, located in Shanghai, China, is within PMT’s UOP business unit and will be accountable for financial integrity and reporting of Long-Term Contract Accounting and Precious Metals Inventory including oversight and analysis of financial results for Asia sites. This role will be responsible for driving consistency in accounting processes and controls, and plays a key role in enhancing the global Project Accounting (PA) model providing accounting stewardship and support to the region.
Responsibilities:
Accountable for regional financial analysis and review of percentage of completion projects (revenue impact from EAC changes and expired PO dates, direct margin trend, contract gains/losses)
Routine accounting close tasks including review and quarterly testing of Purchase Order (PO) accruals, contract loss reserve adjustments, reconciliation of Unbilled and Deferred Revenue accounts for Asian sites, ad hoc journal entries and manual revenue adjustments
Prepare monthly trend reports to ensure accounting controls function as designed (Over 100% Complete Projects, Expired PO List)
Material contract reviews providing accounting guidance on revenue recognition treatment
Reporting to Finance, Controllership and Senior Management on significant and/or complex contracts with material financial statement impacts
Analyze, account for, maintain and work with Finance and Business Partners on complex contracts requiring additional oversight outside of normal processes
Monitor compliance with project accounting policies including EAC adjustments
Drive timely closure of projects; calculate and communicate related revenue impact to Finance
Respond to financial data and accounting treatment requests from Finance, Business Partners, Project Managers and Analysts; assist Finance in forecast accuracy initiatives
Manage day-to-day Asia project accounting work process and utilization of resources in Bangalore, India
Provide project administration support to Customer Order Management (COM) group including financial review of initial project setup, project release/closure, and monitor project inconsistencies
Prepare corporate reporting schedules and tax compliance packages for various balance sheet accounts
Respond to audit requests and inquiries during periodic SOX and compliance testing
Assist in implementation of new procedures and systems in response to new US GAAP pronouncements and corporate policy changes
Assist in SAP go-live and Project Systems setup of new entities or change in structure in the region
Act as Project Accounting subject matter expert in support of special projects as required
Process monthly closing for precious metal ledger, support site controller to report and manage precious metal inventory balance, including customer statement confirmations
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 5 years accounting / audit / finance experience
Knowledge of long-term contract accounting and SAP Project Systems
Additional Qualifications:
CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
Public accounting experience strongly preferred
Cost accounting experience is a plus
Intermediate proficiency in Excel (Pivots, V-Lookups, and Macros)
Experience working with international organizations and/or manufacturing environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong work ethic with hands on approach
