Overall Responsibility
Production Supervisorsleadall employees on a single shift in a defined work area. Production Supervisors are responsible for the day - to -day performance ofthe assigned area of operations and as such are accountable for understanding all relevant corporate policies, processes and objectives coaching staff concerning these matters and ultimately ensuring goal attainment in the assigned area. Production Supervisors are the immediate first supervisor responsible for quality, safety, productivity and available to promise performance in the defined area of responsibility.
Specific Responsibilities
1 Responsible for the performance and behavior of employee assigned to the production team, ensuring that all work is performed in a safe manner, consistent with the Quality Management System and on time.
2 Responsible for proactively identifying capacity bottlenecks or other situations that may negatively impact attainment of a promise. Develop solutions to overcome bottlenecks and mitigate promise deterioration. Where performance deteriorations cannot be overcome, collaborate with production planners to prioritize work.
3 Monitor employee attendance and maintain time off calendars. Organize coverage arrangements for vacation, illness and training within corporate guidelines.
4 Lead in the evaluation of team performance. Provide daily coaching to individual team members. Identify individual performance gaps, create and execute corrective action. Write individual team member performance reviews as defined by corporate policy.
5 Assess team member performance and ensure Team Leaders are providing adequate training of team members for the team to consistently meet corporate objectives.
6 Work closely with Production Scheduling personnel to ensure Team Leaders are allocating resources in the most effective manner possible to meet customer demands. Production Supervisors are authorized, and expected, to approve and schedule overtime as required.
7 Ensure the performance of production teams is aligned with corporate objectives, specifically those surrounding production lead time, quality, throughput, productivity, cycle time and safety.
8 Production Supervisors are the primary channel for communication to Team Leaders and hence have a direct impact on team culture. Ensure corporate messages are clearly communicated and comprehended. Provide feedback to management concerning issues identified by Team Leaders as appropriate. Organize and lead weekly meetings with Team Leaders to foster a forum for open, two-way communication. Maintain a positive production environment staffed by a group of motivated team members.
9 Continuously monitor production team performance, identify opportunities for improvement. Where process deficiencies exist, provide leadership in terms of generating solutions for the identified deficiency. Production Supervisors are the primary catalyst for production-oriented improvement initiatives and should be consistently and systematically seeking out ways to improve production operations. Production Supervisors are expected to have sufficient technical expertise to lead in the development of solutions, but should also be capable of identifying technical gaps and soliciting input from internal/external subject matter experts.
10 Review all NCRs generated by teams in the area of responsibility. Participate in the development and implementation of corrective action. Complete NCRs ensuring that the solution is sufficient, sustainable and fully implemented within the work cell. Ensure Team Leaders and team members are aware of NCR issues and are trained on corrective actions.
11 Identify and ensure timely escalation of problems to the relevant support group.
12 Evaluate employee performance and recommend salary adjustments. Provide feedback to the originating Team Leader.
13 Where appropriate, document supporting rationale for employee discipline and provide recommendations regarding the level of discipline, up to and including suspension and/or termination. Participate in disciplinary meetings.
14 Ensure safety policies and operating practices are implemented and followed in the area of responsibility. Identify deficiencies and take corrective action as necessary. Production Supervisors are responsible for completing relevant legislative documents [such as WCB forms] in the event of an incident and ensuring accurate documentation is submitted within the required time frame.
15 Ensure the production area is kept organized and clean consistent with corporate standards. Scrap materials, packaging, shavings etc should be efficiently removed from work cells. Tools should be located in secure and safe locations, work benches should be kept organized, toolboxes remain located in their specified location etc.
16 Review hourly staff time cards for accuracy. Investigate and correct discrepancies.
17 Ensure daily and preventive maintenance responsibilities assigned to work cell staff are completed according to schedule.
18 Manage production availability for work required after hours. Ensure listed staff are available and customer requirements can be satisfied outside normal business hours.
19 Ensure that any special instructions associated with a particular manufacturing order are documented and understood by the Team Leader.
20 Ensure all processes are in compliance with Top-Co's Quality Management System and all staff activities adhere to documented Work Instructions. Document process changes and proactively engageQuality Assurance staff in the event of a needed documentation change.
Education and Work Experience
1 High School or recognized trade school education.
2 Experience in technical processes comparable to the manufacturing cell; or
3 Equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 One to three years of demonstrated supervisory experience.
Qualifications and Skills
1 Outstanding leadership, problem solving and organizational skills.
2 Positive attitude and ability to develop and maintain positive attitudes with team members.
3 Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form.
4 Familiarity with ISO quality management systems.
5 Detail oriented with strong follow through; organize and prioritize multiple projects.
