The Area: Morningstar is one of the largest independent sources for equity and credit analysis in the world, with global equity coverage of nearly 1,800 companies and credit research on more than 700 firms. In our equity research group, we evaluate companies using a consistent methodology that identifies a company’s sustainable competitive advantages and risks. Morningstar offers both qualitative and quantitative equity research valuation research. For our qualitative research, we primarily use discounted cash flow models to develop intrinsic value estimates on each coverage firm, but also consider alternative valuation methods as appropriate. For our quantitative research, we use an automated model that extrapolates our qualitative research to a broader universe. Our research opinions are distributed proprietary and external platforms to institutional investors, advisors, brokers, and individual investors.

The Role: Our equities research group requires an equity analyst in our Shenzhen office to cover a variety of Asia-Pacific stocks in multiple sectors and support senior analysts. The role holder will publish short-form research reports on our quantitative research data points following our well-established and successful framework. They will also be accountable for pitching investment ideas internally and externally in accordance with Morningstar’s investment methodology.

Key Responsibilities:
1.Research, analyze and publish short-form research reports on about forty Asia-Pacific companies
2.Coherently and convincing write English content, focusing on key business drivers and competitive advantages
3.Support development in-depth institutional research pieces on coverage companies and industries
4.Develop relationships with coverage companies and industry participants to enhance research and build brand
5.Show a constant interest in pushing Morningstar’s research methodology and business forward
6.Proactively surface attractive investment ideas internally and externally to support all products and clients
7.Network with Morningstar global sector teams regarding content, methodology, product, workflow, etc.
8.Have strong self-motivation and not require micro-management to complete tasks
9.Act with independence and an investors first attitude at all times

Requirements:
1.Possess independence, critical thinking skills, and a passion for investing
2.Communicate-well in English written and orally internally and externally
3.Have a bias toward long-term fundamental research and investing
4.Work well within a team and be capable of respectfully accepting and providing constructive feedback
5.Make timely decisions under demanding deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information
6.Interest in developing financial modeling skills together with knowledge of business valuation techniques
7.Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a finance, accounting, mathematics or IT-related subject required
8.Graduate degree and CFA designation preferred
9.At least two years of experience gained in an analyst position
10.Previous personal or professional investing experience are ideal
11.Very strong English skills with the intent of becoming fluent
