SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER – SEARCH EXPERIENCE
(Located in Beijing, China)

Amazon.com's Search Experience team builds the systems and user interface to enable the fastest product discovery experience for Amazon desktop and mobile customers worldwide. We’re responsible for overall customer interaction with Amazon’s search pages, including customer research, creative design, performance & operations, feature engineering and platform engineering. Our team in China is new and we’re looking for talented software engineers to help us grow the team and build customer experience focused innovations.

You’ll be deeply engaged into every phase of software development cycle including project planning, design, implementation, testing and deployment. You will directly impact our roadmap. We're going to change the way that customers search and discover products online. Along the way, we run hundreds of experiments which allow us failing fast and move quickly. We're going to argue about how to solve them, and we'll work together to find a solution that is superior to each of the proposals we came in with. We'll make tough decisions, but we'll all understand why. In this team, developers works extremely close to our product manager, UX designer, research scientist, UX researcher and QA team on projects where we are implementing creative solutions to real problems and develop deep understanding of the problem space. - Work on customer facing, multi-tier, business applications that use the very latest technologies to build scalable and critical systems
- Own and contribute throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation, to creation, testing, deployment
- Ensure cross-platform compatibility (e.g. compatible for mobile application)
- Innovate for better customer experience
- Introduce, use and grow agile development practices on projects
- Be part of an open and non-hierarchical environment where everyone is expected to speak up and collaborate in project and organizational directions

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 4+ years professional experience in software development
- Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design
- Computer Science fundamentals in data structures
- Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
- Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++ or Java
- Good English speaking and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Master Degree in Computer science/Math or related field
- Candidates must be innovative, creative, flexible and self-motivated, with the ability to design and write high-performance, reliable, and maintainable code
- 6+ years of related industry experience
- Successful candidates will have a strong background in an object-oriented language such as Java and experience building web applications
- Strong desire to improve our customer's search experience a must
- Experience in mobile web development preferred
- Experience with Scrum or Agile development a plus
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
