Job Title: University Counsellor
Location: Tianjin, China
Division/Department: Senior School
Reporting Line: Deputy Head of Senior School
The Role:
We're seeking a seasoned University Counsellor with in-depth knowledge and a track record of success in guiding students through the UK university application process, including specific expertise with Oxbridge institutions. The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and a strong commitment to fostering educational excellence and student well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
University Admissions Expertise:
* Serve as the primary source of knowledge for UK university admissions, including detailed understanding of Oxbridge admission policies.
* Advise and guide pupils on selecting appropriate universities, crafting personal statements, and the overall UCAS application process.
* Design and implement informative workshops for pupils and parents surrounding the UK university application landscape, including a specific focus on Oxbridge.
Personalised Counselling:
* Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions with students to determine their individual needs, ambitions, and suitability for UK universities.
* Coordinate and lead group sessions for university preparation, including standardized testing strategies, extracurricular advice, and academic planning.
Supporting Staff:
* Support the Deputy Head of Senior School in developing a first-class university admissions team
* Support the training needs of staff on matters surrounding university admission
* Support HMs and the team of Sixth Form tutors in writing university references and LORs; ensuring that these are completed in a timely manner
* Manage the application process for all pupils applying to US, Canada and HK universities
* Coordinate, in conjunction with the Deputy Head of Senior School, the annual IHEF and the university visits.
* Support the Deputy Head of Senior School in communications with parents.
Supporting pupils:
* Advise and support pupils in their university admissions process
* Regularly lead interactive university prep workshops for families
* Plan for standardised tests, extra-curricular activities, academic and career counselling
* Set up group and individual tutorials to support college and university knowledge and understanding
* Support and advise applicants to elite universities (Oxbridge and G5)
* Monitor and track the university application progress of pupils in years 12 and 13
* Develop a university admission track for pupils from years 9-11
* Support and help pupils on results day and with further advice on university admissions (Clearing etc)
Supporting parents:
* Support and inform parents and the wider Wellington community by providing periodic and regular briefings and updates on university applications
Personal Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in university counselling, with a focus on the UK education system.
* Native or near-native proficiency in English.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills and creativity in a professional setting.
* Exceptional communication skills and ability to connect with diverse individuals.
* Energetic and passionate about student development and higher education.
* Demonstrated ability to work with data and analytics to inform actions and strategies.
