Position Title: Drilling Superintendent

Department: Drilling & Well Engineering

Location: TEDA, P.R. China

Reports to: Drilling & Well Engineering Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

HSE

? Overall responsibility for HSE activities at the drilling and workover site. Demonstrate visible leadership in the management of HSE.

? Ensures effective implementation of the company HSE Management System. Standard

Operating Procedures and Safe Systems of Work at all times

? Manages daily drilling operational activities as required to reduce risk to crews and the well.

? Implements safety initiatives and actively participates in HSE meetings.

? Carries out audits and inspections as required.

? Carries out accident / incident reporting & investigations as required.

? In the case of a well control situation, provides support to the offshore Senior Drilling

Supervisor to bring the well back under control.

COORDINATION AND PLANNING

? Ensures proper planning and preparation of wellsite activities.

? Coordinates operations with the Senior Drilling Supervisor to ensure compliance with the drilling programme, procedures and contract requirements.

? Reviews Well Programs for future wells, providing input as appropriate.

OPERATIONS

? Ensures that the correct well control barriers are in place and that procedures are followed so that the well is under control at all times.

? Ensures that standing instructions are prepared in accordance with company procedures.

? Ensures that engineering calculations have been made to aid in decision-making, with special regard to: anti-collision, cementing programs, drill-string design, hydraulics design, and BHA design.

? Manages the execution of operations in compliance with the Drilling & Completions Programmes in a safe and efficient manner.

? Drives rig performance through detailed planning, preparation & personal supervision of all important operations and programme steps.

? Makes recommendations for improvements in HSE & operational practices.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

a) Formal Education/Training

? Bachelor of Engineering (In appropriate discipline)

? Holder of SAWS / COOOSO Management of Safety certificate.

? Formal, current, Well Control Certification at Supervisor Level for Surface BOP Stack

(IWCF or equivalent).

? Formal education in drilling and well control theory from a recognised industry source.

b) Necessary or useful knowledge, skills & experience

? Sufficient experience and detailed knowledge of the type of operations which the incumbent is to have control over.

? 15 + years of drilling experience, of which at least 5 years should have been in a senior position on a rig or office based operational management position.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

? Office based position.

? Incumbent will work normal office hours but is on call on a 24 hour basis as required.
