Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, information security, operational, credit, pension, insurance, compliance, regulatory, market, reputation and geopolitical risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

- In charge of a defined Business Area in Mainland China in relation to Wholesale Credit Risk (WCR) related matters;

- Review, recommend, and approve corporate credit approvals for domestic and cross border corporate credit facilities, project finance, leveraged acquisition finance, capital market transactions, treasury products, etc. with authorized credit limit.  To ensure sound asset quality and a conservative, constructive and competitive credit culture to facilitate HBCN's strategy for growth by recommending credit proposals in a prudent and timely manner.

- Maintain the credit quality of the portfolio to minimize impairment on the wholesale credit exposures

- Proactively identify and highlight emerging risk issues and sub-standard credit exposures and ensure appropriate action is taken to protect the Bank's interests

- Engage stakeholders and internal customers regularly by understanding and sharing vision, best practice, challenges, and potential solutions; and by working collaboratively on transaction pipelines, credit guidelines, portfolio or product reviews, and other credit risk related initiatives

- To keep abreast of the development of sector/industry/regulations and its implications on our lending criteria/appetite.

- Maintain regular communication with Business, Product, Group and Country teams, provide feedback or advice to maintain effective relationships in the areas of responsibility; reinforce HSBC's strong brand value with third parties

- To support business to capture high-growth wholesale sectors, such as healthcare, technology, Mid Market Enterprises, and Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.

- To undertake special projects on credit related matters and maintain HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group policies.

- To maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring.

- Provide wider contribution to other areas of the Wholesale Credit Risk team and guiding/mentoring of junior colleagues

- Willingness to demonstrate and ensure adherence to HSBC core values in own work and that of stakeholders

Qualifications

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirement

- Degree holder with solid and diversified banking experience (minimum 8 years) and a thorough understanding of the banking industry, lending practices, guidelines and appetite, as well as robust knowledge of corporate banking and treasury products.

- Bachelor degree holder, major in Economics, Finance or Accounting is preferred

- Direct experience in a frontline Wholesale role would be preferred

- Lending or credit approvals experience in China and/or in Emerging Markets, preferred Robust understanding of the China regulatory environment

- Strong analytical and technical skills, as well as the ability to understand and consolidate diverse and complex business information to identify and mitigate risks

- Excellent communication and leadership skills to able to lead discussion and credit approval forums which involve various senior stakeholders from multiple functions

- Able to work independently, to prioritize workload and constantly work under pressure with good planning and co-ordination skills;

- Self-starter with willingness to continue to upskill in knowledge and skill. A demonstrated team player attitude with ability and willingness to reach out and help beyond the strict boundaries of the core role

- Digital and technology savvy with ability to bring in digital solutions to transform the lending business would be a strong advantage

- Competent written and spoken English and Mandarin language
