TITLE: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SUPERVISOR 

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENT : PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

Oversee the activities of the Product Development mechanical and electrical engineers, ensuring they adhere to project specifications, plans, and timelines. Devise and implement a plan to foster these critical design skill sets, and the related resources, to ensure sustained productivity and future product viability. Conceptualize, develop, implement and maintain new and existing product designs, using sound engineering principles and practices, in support of company business development efforts, marketing plans, and department plans. Analyze specifications, as well as business, technology and cost requirements, and implement appropriate, approved designs in a timely and cost-effective manner. Take steps to ensure product reliability, performance, and customer acceptance.

PRIMARY DUTIES

§  Product Development engineering staff leadership, coaching, development, and management

§  Planning, prioritization, and management of the Product Development workload queue

§  Resource planning, allocation and tracking

§  Develop, document, implement and enforce group processes and procedures leveraging best practices

§  Establish, track and publish departmental metrics – Drive improvement against the metrics

§  Conceptualize and develop products using sound engineering principles

§  Develop and maintain cost projections against an established target throughout development

§  Ensure product quality, in part thru functional as well as accelerated life and abusive testing

§  Provide quality assurance to ensure customer satisfaction and conformance to product

§  Lead and support cost reduction initiatives

§  Drive focused innovation and experimentation

§  Participate in department projects and teams as requested by the Director

SECONDARY DUTIES

§  Support Dealers and Customer Service in the application, quoting and ordering process

§  Support Sourcing and Production in the order fulfillment process

§  Support Service in after sales support and provide field support as required

§  Assist in the development of specifications for new products and product enhancements

§  Participate in the identification and recommendation of new material handling solutions

§  Remain current on relevant emerging technology and trends

§  Remain current on project management and product development best practices

§  Serve as a technical resource to other departments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

§  A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree

§  5+ years of professional experience minimum

§  Engineering supervisory experience

§  Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
