Advanced Supplier Development

Key Role and Responsibilities

Develop and define robust component and manufacturing processes, including key parameter freeze in collaboration with global supply base

Establish that supply base is set up, to provide capable metrology / testing systems, to measure and evaluate key product requirements, dimensional, leak, material and cleanliness

Technical supplier coaching and design for manufacture systematic problem solving

Support Purchasing with CVA analysis & Technology Gaps closure

Execution of CBS@ supplier’s projects, coach & lead suppliers with improvement data driven mythology and support suppliers for “lean manufacturing”

General Advanced supplier development to supports supplier management process including sourcing, component introduction & serial production

Provide Technical supplier coaching and establish workshops for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Cost (DFC)

Drive technical and tooling reviews at potential global suppliers and evaluate /critique technical capabilities

Perform “Technical Reviews” to establish potential supply base and capability evaluation

Communicate results and actions with suppliers and to internal departments / management

Main Tasks

Initiate DFM (Design For Manufacture) and DFC (Design For Cost) workshops with global supply base and define for generic and detailed improvements

Ensure process robustness to meet volume and quality requirements and support through safe launch concept

Execute timely supplier development tooling and measurement planning / implementation

Establish and Freeze key parameters at supplier and aligned with Continental key Engineering disciplines 

Execute Feasibility investigations at supplier sites with respect to their specific conformance commitments (CoFC)

Identify supplier technology gaps and establish improvement plans within the sourcing and component introduction phase

Evaluate and promote cross function and project lessons learned

Drive Design to manufacture issues to closure

Support with pragmatic problem solving  

Credentials

Minimum 5 years Technical Experience

Degree or Technical Qualification in Engineering or other related disciplines

Advantageous but not limited to experience with Process or Tool Manufacture for one (or more) of the following technologies: Aluminum Die Casting, Aluminum Extrusion, Plastic Mechatronics (Injection Molding / Stamping), Welding / Brazing, Rotor/Stator Lamination, CNC Machining, Metrology/Test, Gear Design/Manufacture

Long Term experience in Automotive product and functions

Experience preferable in design, process or application engineering of Powertrain components or systems

Basic knowledge preferable of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, sub systems and products

International competence and mindset – willingness to travel for extended duration/s

Ability to work hands on at suppliers and establish trust with key supplier and internal network

Fluent English and/or German speaking and writing

Assertiveness, strong communicator and team orientated

High level of individual responsibility, drive and target orientation

Solution orientated, able to work under pressure to understand different individual interests and to harmonize to find holistic solutions to problems

新能源科技事业部亚太区研发中心
