Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Support effective & safe use of research equipment by users at research centers to generate high quality and timely data (50%); includes:
Working directly with Corn Research Centers on equipment training and/or troubleshooting;
Directly servicing equipment; and/or using selected vendors for support/maintenance

2. Provide technical leadership for specific types of research equipment (e.g., tractors, sprayers, driers, Planters, plot Combines, silage Choppers, irrigation drip systems, automated machines etc. 20%); includes:
Developing specifications for purchasing, servicing, and/or upgrading (includes appropriate testing; work with Engineering, et al.);
Developing technical content for documentation and training; and
Creating appropriate equipment-use reports

3. Develop and/or support the use of computer-based information for equipment users and RESTS Team (10%); includes:
Using equipment data base to track assets and their use and providing web-based information to support equipment use (i.e., technical support materials, training, service bulletins, etc.)

4. Ensure a safe, productive and efficient work environment (10%)
Remaining current on new and emerging equipment technology by participating in professional meetings, career development activities, and by encouraging others to bring information into research equipment activities;
Assuring performance plans and goals are established to set direction and gain/provide feedback;
Promoting effective and accurate workmanship and a positive work environment;
Assisting in developing and managing operating and capital budgets; and
Promoting and providing safe working conditions

5. Provide logistical support for fleeting equipment among testing locations (5%)
Develop and refine data-driven plans to meet timelines while minimizing costs; and
Arrange for transportation, as needed

Educational qualifications and Experience:
MS degree in an agricultural field is required, with at least three years of experience working with agricultural equipment - preferably research equipment. A major in agricultural engineering or mechanization is preferred but other areas of emphasis will be considered, with evidence of some coursework and/or experience related to agricultural mechanization/engineering. Effective communications skills are essential as well as the ability to work in team environment. Proficiency with personal computers is essential.

Problem Solving
Helping users solve problems with equipment in use at a research center (e.g., NIRS or computer problems on combines / planters) - these could be handled via phone and/or computer or may require on-site visit
Working with equipment suppliers to determine appropriate solutions to recurring problems with equipment such as planters, combines or choppers.

Decision Making
Identifying and evaluating products and vendors for purchasing and/or servicing equipment and details of agreements that are most cost-effective to determine how best to invest capital or operating dollars; these decisions frequently lead to expenditures of up to or greater than $ 200,000 USD.
Prioritizing time to assist and appropriate course of action to solve equipment problems occurring simultaneously at multiple research centers - decisions can dramatically affect progress of operations at these centers due to equipment downtime.

The Dow Chemical Company and DuPont have announced their intent to combine in an all-stock merger of equals. The merger is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2017 and the new company will be named DowDuPont. Within 18-24 months of the merger, DowDuPont intends to spinoff entities resulting in three separate and independent publicly traded companies, subject to regulatory and board approval. At the time of the spin, employees will be moved to one of the three companies.
