Job Summary: This Senior Advanced Modeling Engineer will create, maintain and improve modeling simulation and data management software applications to support new product and technology development projects in Ingersoll Rand and especially in the Residential Strategic Business Unit.  The role will also support the use of these applications to troubleshoot, analyze and offer solutions to performance & reliability problems of HVAC components & systems in the lab or field.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

• Become familiar with Ingersoll Rand HVAC Products, including Residential A/Cs and Heat Pumps, Commercial Chillers, Rooftops, Air Handler products and Transport products.
• Develop and use predictive models and data processing applications for HVAC components & systems.
• Improve, standardize, and maintain existing in-house steady state component and system models.
• Provide mentorship and share best practices in areas of expertise.
• Work closely with team members, cross-functional associates, and internal customers to gather requirements, provide updates/reports, train end-users, etc.
• Document work per established internal standards and suggest improvements to procedures.
• Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians and other team members.
• Prepare complete schedules and reports for assigned projects, including presentations to stakeholders.
• Achieve scheduled milestones for assigned projects.
• Coordinate the activities of other engineers or technicians assigned to the project.
• Provide engineering support to the Product Planning and Technical Support Team.
• Effectively meet the needs of internal and external customers.

 Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:

• MS or higher in mechanical (thermal) engineering.
• 5~10 years experience in air-conditioning / HVAC system design and modeling.

Essential Skills or Knowledge Required:

• Expertise in the thermal sciences (thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics), gained preferably from experience with HVAC components & systems.
• Familiar with air conditioning products, such as Residential Split Systems, Commercial Chillers, Rooftops, Air Handlers and Transport Refrigeration.
• Experience in air conditioning system and component design and optimization.
• Familiar with commercial tools such as: Modelica, Matlab, EnergyPlus, etc. 
• Programming capability desirable. Experience with Fortran, Visual Basic (VBA) and C++/C# for understanding existing codes as well as developing new component models in modern languages/scripting platforms.
• Experience in problem formulation & solution using numerical methods via commercial solvers & custom code required.
• Project management skills required.
