• Support New Product Development through Design For Manufacture (DFM) analysis and management of tool design enabling suppliers to meet JCI’s quality and business objectives.  This role supports JCI through: Advice on manufacturability (DFM – Design For Manufacturability)
• Perform DFM/Feasibility studies of individual plastic components with development team members.   Review and offer improvement suggestions for components.
• Engage with cross functional teams to complete DFM analysis and utilise subject matter expertise across the organisation to identify optimum solutions.
• Utilize and/or complete Mold Flow Analysis simulation to support a quick turn DFM process.
• Write and communicate Tooling Specification Requirements (TSR’s) based on DFM analysis.
• Co-Ordinate Tooling requirements for NPI and support for tool replacement, refurbishment activities through engagement with the business.
• Life cycle calculation and management, quality, and new product introductions.
• Participate in the tool design process with tooling suppliers and provide first level of approval.
• Manage mold manufacturing from mold maker, die maker
• Support to the Engineering and Supply Chain groups through supplier technical validation and on-boarding procedures.
• Work closely with Mechanical Engineers and other development team members to ensure that tools produce component parts that will meet all requirements.

Tooling Design Experience essential. In particular, experience in specification of tools. Tool Design for serviceability (e.g. use of standardized components for better serviceability, areas of wear and tear are inserted, coated and/or exchangeable.). Specific software knowledge such as Recognized Mold Flow Analysis tool, Creo, AutoCAD etc. Support development of repository and Design Guidelines and keep them updated.

Required knowledge for Product design support as the primary function

• Structured DFMEA reviews to identify Critical Characteristics
• Design for Manufacturability as it relates to product and tooling
• Develop MTBF – Reliability Metrics for products
• Eco-friendly material and material minimum concepts

Expertise in Molding - Primary:

• Hot runner injection molding of low & high cavitation molds.
• Cold runner injection molding
• Knowledge in Properties of ABS, GF Nylon, Nylon, PPS, etc.
• Inserting specific features within the tools to increase the tool life / reduce cycle time.

Expertise in Molding - Secondary:

• Melt flow indices
• Scientific Injection Molding (SIM) techniques
• Reduction of defects (flash, cracks, aging..)
• Cycle time improvement
• Tooling for Rubber and TPE products including injection, compression and transfer molding.
• Knowledge on post processing or secondary processing techniques such as Stress relief, machining, heat treatment, plating, printing and secondary fixturing.

Desirable:

• Mold setup and processing - Certified Master Molder or equivalent
