Otis will build a new global research and development facility that will be home to 600 engineers.
It will support development of new technologies for use in elevators for versatile market segments, delivering higher efficiency and smaller footprints, as well as superior safety, comfort and convenience for passengers. The Shanghai center will work with a global network of experts and have global exposure on assignments.
Responsibilities:
This position is for a MASC engineer in a product development setting for elevator products and processes. An advanced modeling and simulation capability is a critical enabler to increase systems design speed, innovation in design, and optimizing dynamic performance or ride quality at a competitive cost for our systems platforms while demonstrating industry leadership. This team is an expert technical team leveraging advanced simulation tools to aid in investigations, predictive performance, product development, and future innovative designs.
Typical responsibilities are:
Develop applied modeling and simulation approaches for vehicles; leverage knowledge of transportation industry best practices
Participate in product development or analysis teams to reduce product noise, vibration, or dynamics risks
Conduct experiments to measure noise and vibration including operational measurements, modal analysis, transfer path analysis, and noise/vibration source measurement
Performing root cause analysis to diagnose and resolve both system and component noise and vibration issues
Predicts effort required to simulate and support customer requests
Collaborate with experts from different countries and work with internal or university R&D teams, including United Technologies Research Center
Communicate effectively with Management and team members
Validate models and simplify complicated models or approaches for quick guidance
Support complex testing plans, analysis, and technical risks especially related to MASC competencies
Develop simple tools leveraging apps or partner with software teams to achieve a suite of tools for product development engineers
Specialized Technical Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of modeling or testing experience
- Ability to specify requirements and inputs necessary to simulate and understand technical risks and communicate with global experts
- Advanced engineering degree specializing in nonlinear dynamics, multibody dynamics, noise or vibration preferred
- Strong candidates will have experience in cross-functional teams and able to translate customer requests into proactive analyses and test tasks
- Understanding of engineering product development processes and qualification
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle designs and simulation approaches
- Strong candidates have working experience with commercial engineering software and MATLAB, such as Ansys/HyperMesh (or similar commercial FEA tool), Virtual.Lab (or Sysnoise), and VA One (or AutoSEA). Experience with multi-body dynamics, and Creo is a plus.
- Ability to verify models using advanced test methods, data acquisition systems, and sensors
Education/Certifications: Masters in Mechanical, Applied Dynamics, or Acoustics Engineering or similar degree is required. Doctorate is preferred
Experience/Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of modeling or testing experience
Works well independently or within a cross-functional team
Demonstrated ability to identify system or component design improvements based on simulated designs and testing.
Ability to creatively solve problems and possess an innovative mindset
Have a high energy and passion for working with data
Good interpersonal and leadership skills
Excellent Chinese and English communication skills for speaking, reading, and writing
Self-motivated and able to handle pressure
