Department Overview
Equity Derivatives Technology provides IT development and support for the Equity Derivatives business. Equity Derivatives covers a variety of business lines, including Arbitrage, Volatility, Exotics, Fund Linked derivative and Convertible Bond trading. Trading desks are currently in London, New York and Hong Kong with Sales in offices worldwide.
Equity Derivatives is a vibrant and exciting business which is undergoing spectacular growth in terms of trading volumes, global coverage, the breadth of product coverage and the revenue it generates for the firm. It is a relatively young business area in Barclays Capital and has grown up in close partnership with IT.
Equity Derivatives Technology currently has close to 300 staff across London, New York and Singapore.
Main Function
The candidate will be a member of the team that is responsible for delivering tactical applications to the equity derivatives trading team, and enhancing strategic core frameworks for global rapid application development. The technology footprint covers much of the entire trade lifecycle including pre-trade, pricing, and parameter management. The program of work forms a core part of Barclays Capital 2010 technology strategy.
As the team expands the candidate will play a pivotal role in the expansion of the Equities business globally. The technology developed through this program of work will allow Barclays Capital to capitalize on short term deliveries and bridge the longer term vision for strategic implementation. The focus of the work will cover the technology designed to support one off bespoke exotics as well as high volume flow exotics. As the market evolves to a flow model for the highest volume exotic products the technology model also needs to adapt and the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the technology that will support Barclays Capital.
The candidate will be responsible for developing Excel based tools in Asia Pacific. The candidate will be expected to work close with the technology team in Hong Kong who deliver to technically literate operations, legal and compliance, and front office staff. In addition the candidate will be expected to work very closely with other technology teams throughout the region and develop solutions which satisfy a diverse set of requirements.
Person Requirements
The ideal candidate will posses the following skills and experience:
? Top tier academics with numerate degree
? "Can do ", hands on , pragmatic attitude
? Minimum 4 years IB front office facing experience ideally within Equity Derivatives
? Hands on technical skills in a variety of languages. Strong ability in Excel and VBA essential. Knowledge of other languages such as COM, C# and Java an advantage.
? Experience of web services and relational databases.
? Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
? Enjoys the pressure of working in an Agile/RAD environment and demonstrate successful project deliveries using these methods
? Comprehensive set of successful strategic deliveries where Excel is the main user interface
? Knowledge of exotic & structured products including a strong understanding of pricing techniques and lifecycle management issues.
? Enthusiastic and pragmatic approach to problem solving. Genuine interest in complex algorithms and the technology required to manage them.
