PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Supplier Quality Die Casting Subject Matter Expert that requires the application of indepth understanding of die casting process steps and some metallurgy to assure nonferrous (e.g., aluminum) casting products suppliers conform to COMPANY and customer requirements. An understanding of statistical methods is required to guide / coach suppliers to achieve zero defects through robust process controls and process capability assessment, process analysis, tooling total preventive/predictive maintenance and casting machining processes. Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing as it applies to castings.

Travels to casting supplier to perform source inspection, onsite process assessments, FMEA reviews, quality management system audits Recommends appropriate actions on findings as necessary. Work closely and coordinates activities with COMPANY assembly plant Supplier Quality Engineer, Material Planning and Sourcing on quality and delivery matters. Interface with New Product development teams, Advance Quality Planning team, manufacturing engineering and Quality Engineers on new product qualifications, flawless launch, changes on product and/or process, supplier development and improvements. Provide strategic, tactical support and supplier quality engineering support to COMPANY Operations, NPD Sourcing and Procurement on various Supplier Quality activities such as supplier qualification, monitoring and performance reviews. Facilitate communications with suppliers and COMPANY assembly plant on nonconformance, COMPANY plant visit to supplier and supplier performance reviews. Lead suppliers on improving quality using SAP data and other pertinent information. Develop pro-active approach, analysis and strategies to challenge suppliers towards improvements.

Provide technical information such as measurement data, analysis and reports on supplied products. Provide support to other Supplier Quality functions as required and/or assigned by team leadership.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Analyze & report performance of dies casting supplier using SAP data and supplier data. Work with Suppliers to improve performance towards zero defects. Contribute to supplier performance monitoring performance evaluation.

2. Good interpersonal communication skills as the COMPANY focal person at the casting supplier location to ensure COMPANY assembly plant contacts are well informed of any supplier developments, potential process changes, and other pertinent information that may affect quality, delivery and cost integrity.

3. Drive Zero Defects and Supplier QN prevention from casting supplier through proactive prevention of pass through defects.

4. Provide technical information such as measurement data, analysis and reports on supplied products.

5. Assist COMPANY plants in resolving plating supplier process and quality issues.

6. Advocate supplier process improvements and perform failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) to assure supplier process related risks are mitigated

7. Lead suppliers on improving supplier quality notifications and cost of poor quality. Develop proactive approach and strategies to challenge supplier towards improvements. Provide updates and reports to management on a timely basis including supplier scorecard. Responsible for analyzing and providing recommendations regarding supplier quality data.

8. Travels to the die casting supplier onsite COMPANY representative to assure supplier’s conformance to standards, COMPANY and customer requirements. Responsible for casting supplier continuous improvement activities while assuring suppliers comply with COMPANY process change requirements, EH&S and social responsibility requirements.

9. Support Lean Six Sigma through supplier improvement activities. Maintain & support Quality Management systems through following and coordinating procedure changes, inspection criteria with COMPANY assembly plant and supplier.

10. Support operations and engineering on data analysis and provide feasibility resolutions to new products and processes. Participate on Product Development Teams and advance quality planning to assure flawless launch and supplier quality assurance

11. Supplier onsite lead and support for COMPANY Plant Supplier Quality, materials and sourcing on major supplier issues regarding quality and delivery

12. Interface with customers as required to address quality issues related to supplier products and complete quality notification 8D follow up and CAPA verification. Timely response to COMPANY assembly plant by deploying appropriate containment actions. Monitor supplier 8D responses for effectiveness.

SCOPE:

This position will be responsible for the on-site supplier quality assurance of die-casting supplier and other supplier quality related responsibilities as assigned by management

EDUCATION:

REQUIRED:

Manufacturing Technology or related field

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

1. At least 5 years of related experience in manufacturing quality in die casting environment.

2. Quality in manufacturing experience (working knowledge of problem solving tools including 8D)

3. Training or experience in the following: Die Casting, Machining, Quality Management Systems and Environmental Standards.

REQUIRED:

1. The ability to travel, work extended hours as required and interface with supplier and COMPANY Assembly plant

2. Ability to work well with others.

3. Working knowledge of MS office, SPC, Gage Capability and FMEA

4. Effective interpersonal skills.

5. Good time management, organizational, communication and presentation skills.

6. Sound decision-making skills. Excellent analytical, problem solving and failure/root cause analysis skills.

PREFERRED:

Expert knowledge of die casting and CNC machining processes including tool design and process control experience
