Early Years’ Teacher (Chinese)– JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Deputy Head of Early Years

1 General Role Description:

A well-qualified Early Years’ teacher, with at least two years’ experience of working with young children in an Early Years’ setting

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum:

§ To deliver Chinese elements of the EYFS curriculum, including Mandarin upto Reception level.

§ To work with the other classroom teacher and other staff on the development of schemes of work, helping to build opportunities for:

- Ensuring progression through the EY framework

- Active learning

- Assessment for learning

- Meeting the needs of all learners

- ICT

- Enrichment and external links

Learning:

§ To ensure that pupils make good or outstanding progress towards their ELG

§ To deal effectively with behaviour, attendance and punctuality issues

Assessment:

§ To carry out the regular assessment and marking, according to the Early Years’ and whole school assessment and marking policy

§ To keep records of pupil attainment and progress

§ To provide timely and accurate feedback to pupils, parents and leadership

Pupil Welfare:

To take responsibility for monitoring the wellbeing, health and safety of pupils under the care of the teacher, acting in line with school policies in this area

To provide support for pupils in their learning and their social and emotional development

To ensure that all students are valued and treated according to the aims of the school.

2 Knowledge, Experience and Profile

Essential Qualifications / Skills:

§ A relevant degree and professional teaching qualification is essential

§ A passion for Early Years’ bilingual education and the ability to share this with as wide a range of pupils as possible

§ Excellent curriculum knowledge and an interest in current developments in Early Years’ education and bilingualism

§ Fluency in written and spoken English to enable effective communication with pupils and in working relationships

§ Knowledge of EY assessment frameworks

§ A commitment to placing the wellbeing each pupil at the heart of what they do and can demonstrate how they will support the development of the school’s values and identity.

§ Excellent inter-personal skills, particularly in terms of dealing with parents and colleagues

§ Honesty, integrity, compassion, flexibility and a good sense of humour

§ Strong organizational, self-management and problem-solving skills

§ A willingness to support colleagues in providing a premium service to pupils and parents of the Early Years’ centre.

Desirable Qualifications / Skills:

§ Experience in teaching children within a EY bilingual context

§ Experience in using Tapestry or similar assessment tools

§ Experience using ICT (or a VLE) to enrich pupils’ learning
