Job Summary:
Product Manager - AGM & EFB, China and Asia will be responsible for the theStart-Stop product segments including AGM and EFB based out of Shanghai. This local leader will assume product management responsibility in the region but report through the global product organization with dotted lines to local OE and AM leadership.
This position is responsible to establish the local product execution strategies across the China and Asia regions which are aligned to the global product vision. This positon will act as the product ambassador directly supporting the local OE and Aftermarket commercial teams and driving credibility with SLI & Specialty customers.
The person will align internal and external stake holders, partners and vendors to ensure customer expectations are met including Product, Program, Engineering, Operations, Commercial teams and key customer decision makers. Responsible to outline product profitability strategies, tactics, new customer acquisition, achieving revenue targets, managing cost down initiatives and localizing the value propositions for the SLI & Specialty Product Portfolio for China & Asia. This person owns the knowledge of the local competitive landscape including product, capacity and SWOT.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for local China / Asia SLI Specialty product management.
- Supports and drives the vision of the product line and the related strategic and operational roadmap for the China / Asia region.
- Responsible for developing the local Voice of the Customer at customer level with support and alignment of the commercial team.
- Responsible for a deep understanding of the competitive landscape in the local markets and maintain the local competitive over view.
- Develops and maintains the localized product line value proposition and provides the OE and Aftermarket teams with the associated Sales collateral, training and pricing guidelines to effectively implement the product strategy and achieve the revenue and profit targets of the region.
- Developing OE and Aftermarket go to market tools driven from the global set which ensure successful new product launch and increased market share.
- Supports the development and implementation of the product group’s long and short-range operating and strategic plans toward continued profitable growth. Supports to define the product line strategies and identifies new business development opportunities.
- Drive better processes, encourage more cooperation and create coherent products allowing the product managers to drive individually successful products programs.
- Establishes supporting processes for development, design, and introduction of new products and services
- Evolves the product line to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage in the market place. Researches, interprets and analyzes current market and industry trends and competitive environment for the purpose of defining portfolio of products and services and outlining a clear roadmap. Develops and explains product values to internal and external stakeholders
- Provides pricing guidance in alignment with value proposition for the regional product line framed by business expectations and robust commercial models.
- Providing critical interface between the commercial and product engineering teams to anticipate and deliver solutions for market-based needs short and long-term.
- Support regional complexity reduction projects with product related opportunities and cooperate with portfolio managers
- Have an analytical mind set to challenge the organization around project prioritization, new developments, validation of market segment, technical priorities, pricing, or sales/distribution models, etc.
- Identifies future and strategic business opportunities and oversees market entry, capture, execution strategy, and proposal development. Understands customer needs and maintains a healthy business opportunity pipeline that is factored to help prioritize pursuits and continue the product line’s growth, considering both the Original Equipment and the Aftermarket business.
- Develops business plans to support strategy and product roadmap recommendations to executive management including the launch of new features, products and services.
- Monitors business performance achievement to plan. Develops and monitors the product group's budget and performance. Resolves technical and operating problems within the product group and alerts management to problems of major significance.
- Actively participate in regional Sales & Marketing meetings to have an intense two way communication to support and align the product strategy depending on changing market requirements
- Partners with Engineering Product Line team to define the product strategy roadmap to ensure a solid product pipeline that meets client needs and business objectives.
- Partners with Operations to define and manage manufacturing footprint: oversees existing manufacturing facilities, works with local leadership to achieve conversion costs targets, supports manufacturing engineering capabilities and identifies needs/options for potential footprint expansion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in business, marketing, engineering or equivalent experience. MBA or other graduate-level degree preferred.
- 8+ years’ product management or marketing management experience including direct product portfolio management experience and accountability. Progressive marketing, sales, or related experience in a similar field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Battery, Automotive or similar Industry and function in product management role.
- Capable to establish report with the local OE / aftermarket, technical and program teams to gain acceptance and ensure alignment to global SLI Specialty product strategies.
- Demonstrated passion for the battery products to inspire commercial teams and gain customer alignment to new product strategies.
- Strong communication and presentation skills. Effectively able to communicate and influence the sales/customer and/or engineering communities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to all levels of the organization, specifically in a manufacturing/production environment
- Demonstrated direct / matrix / peer leadership skill to align local technical / program and commercial teams to the product vision.
- Base understanding of flooded and AGM lead acid battery technology across all vehicle segments including Conventional, SLI Specialty, Micro Hybrid, Hybrid & Electric Vehicle.
- Proven understanding of incorporating the product development life-cycle processes and methodologies in strategic and tactical plans.
- Financial acumen with capability to build out product business cases.
- Ability to identify opportunities/threats and develop and execute appropriate strategic and tactical business solutions
- Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly grasp and interpret information pertinent to the growth of the organization
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
