Responsibilities:
Position description – Accountabilities
The project leader working closely with the technology manager and other team members is accountable for the delivery of dedicated & well defined projects within the Lubricants R&D programme. To achieve this PL needs to develop a relationship with product marketing and supply chain at an appropriate level and through this an on-going understanding of the requirements and constraints.
Specific project accountabilities will be:
• Plan,execute,review and deliver the assigned projects. Pro-active manage deliverables and budgets. Should delivery come at risk,take appropriate corrective action.
• Write R&D reports at appropriate and agreed (with TM) level for delivery of projects or project elements
• Contribute to definition and review of working documents and product development briefs
• Manage internal and external development projects (e.g. additive suppliers)
• Effectively liaise with and where appropriate participate on relevant sector teams,contributing to the development of new customer value propositions (CVPs)
• Maintain understanding of own and competitor product performance and technology
• Contribute to planning of programme,and generation of new ideas
OEM and industry activities will require the ability to:

• Identify the implications of the technical activity (own/competitor(s)/trends)
• Maintain awareness of technical trends and issues affecting own products
• Influence and lobby where required in support of business initiatives
• Quickly build working relationships
• Prepare and deliver presentations professionally to internal and external stakeholders

Position description – Special Challenges
• Interfacing with marketing and product management to enable efficient implementation of new products,speedy resolution of ongoing supply chain issues and support to OEM business development opportunities as and when they arise.
• Development of formulation expertise by working with existing team members and key additive suppliers,building a level of understanding that enables robust shaping dialogue with additive company partners.
• Development of lubricant manufacturing expertise by working with existing team members and experts from supply chain in order to understand the specific requirements and to enable a smooth scale up. This will include active participation in plant trials.
• Coordination between various groups (including laboratory,EVT,product marketing,product management and manufacturing)
• Focus will increase on the specific requirements for the key growth markets in the BRIC countries and their specific customers and challenges. Pro-active and supportive engagement with the relevant OUs,customers and other relevant functions will be key to success here

Requirements:
Experience and Qualifications required
• Research science or engineering background, chemistry preferred
• A Ph.D. degree is highly desirable
• Proven team working, inter-personal & networking skills, preferably in a virtual environment
• Knowledge of key building blocks of lubricant formulations and manufacturing (at least 3 years)
• Working knowledge of lubricant additives as well as base oils
• Track record of working with supply chain and/or marketing desirable
• Proven record of delivery, with evidence of drive and creativity coupled with a structured and disciplined approach to project management
• Excellent report writing skills desirable
