Job Title: Engineer R&D
 
Job Responsibilities:
Kennametal has a full capability to manufacture inserts from powder to edge formation and coating. Kennametal also has multiple facilities with diverse capacities at differing levels of performance. This position is in the Kennametal Technology group, which is situated within the Process improvement team working between R&D and Manufacturing functions. Its mission is to identify, pilot and implement improvements in or new manufacturing processes to improve quality and reduce cost. In particular, this role helps to optimize current capabilities and develop next generation technologies and processes to minimize cost of production and maximize throughput & quality with respect to customer needs. In addition, this position will assist on open innovations in collaborations with China universities and research institutes.
 
The person in this position will be responsible for leading and executing individual projects related to improving & supporting manufacturing processes; implement and manage existing and future technology; implement robust & controlled manufacturing processes; integration of technology based systems to improve products and processes; drive cost & efficiency programs to reduce End to End Inserts manufacturing (E2E) cost of products.
 
This person needs to be capable of working in a cross functional team where he or she will interface with other operating groups of within Kennametal (i.e. Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Internal/External customers, etc.) globally; identify required resources internally, externally and across disciplines; develop project plans; keep projects on schedule, within budget, meeting the project objectives; direct or support the development of project deliverables and present those deliverables at project meetings; work with Intellectual Property department to secure confidential agreements and ensure new ideas are properly disclosed and patented or kept as trade secret, and maintain Kennametal ethical compliance.
 
Qualifications:
1. Over 5 years working experience, including two years of high volume process manufacturing experience. Prefer manufacturing experience in carbide, ceramic, or PVD/CVD processing. Metal cutting or machining experience is a plus. The level of this position will directly relate to the selected candidates education and experience level.
2. Bachelor degree from an outstanding university in Mechanical Engineering or relevant major; advanced degree preferred; Strong academic achievements
3. Good oral and written technical communications skills in Chinese and English, CET-4 or above
4. Competencies Preferred:
Project management experience;
A team player as well as able to execute projects and complete short-term work assignments independently;
Problem solving skills;
Well versed in PC software.
5. Actively participate and enhance Kennametal “Safety First” and Ethical Culture.
