Title of position: Ocean Local Carrier Management & Route Manager - Shanghai
Reports to: Head of Ocean, Greater China Area
Number of direct reports: 3
Purpose & general responsibilities of the position:
You will act as Shanghai Ocean product manager and be responsible for maintaining ocean product and ensure the team develop the products and service in the most professional and productive fashion. Based in Shanghai but overall responsible for PRE Ocean development including but not limited to Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.
You will be responsible for managing, optimising and developing the team with focus on:
? Provide clear direction for all commercial OCEAN activities through the establishment and execution of a solid Milestone Plan
? Strategic direction to draw financial value for the Ocean product, contributing to the NAS Damco result
? Manage procurement, support allocation management
? Managing ocean carriers at the local level
? Producing competitive ocean products for selling
? Establishing close interaction with destination product team to streamline the ocean productivities
? Close work with Asia ocean managers to follow company’s strategic guidance
? Establishing and optimizing the operational process
? Support sales team in all ocean sales activities
? Broadcast Damco brand in the marketing means among ocean carriers, suppliers and end customer
? Develop the strong team and improve the team effectiveness by coaching the team members, developing talents, creating open, energize and harmonious working atmosphere
You will report to the Great China Area Ocean Manager, in addition to the above, you are expected to participate actively in the overall cluster initiatives – both operational and strategic in nature.
Specific responsibilities of the position:
1. Strategic Direction and financial results
Constantly review opportunities and threats in the market place and make the best of out of it, based on the resources available, strengths and weaknesses of same.
- Support the implementation of ocean product strategy from regional ocean product
- Drive area ocean product P&L
- Deliver timely and accurate budgets, accruals and estimates to provide an adequate decision made
- Drive procurement in mainly FCL development and support LCL/import if needed; define best possible solution to optimize the profit margin
- Actively update market intelligences in a timely manner and customer needs, expand and explore new market opportunities
- Drive product development in close cooperation with area/regional/overseas network and facilitate trade lane development as per ocean strategy
- Engage with existing and new customers for their continuous support
- Give functional guidance and expertise to support the local operations in achieving operational excellence, optimal productivity and profitability
- Develop and optimize ocean opportunities, ongoing drive margin and volume mix within area product, support marketing and sales activities to maximize business terms
- Ensure relevant governance and compliance in accordance with Damco standards
2. People Management
Lead 1 sub team, and develop all colleagues to achieve the maximum of their potential.
- Attract, develop and retain talent within the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group
- Motivate subordinates and increase employee satisfaction
- Be a role model in leadership and living our core values
- Pro-actively delegate learning opportunities and coach colleagues

3. Upgrade supplier management and drive ocean procurement
Deliver a second to none customer service through managing ocean carriers to minimize ocean buying
- Assure successful peak execution in all suppliers
- Drive cost down by reprocurement and optimizing market cycle
- Establishing good relationship with all carriers locally
- Ensure a high data quality and timeliness in reporting
4. Increase Productivity
Constantly find ways to work smarter and take redundancy out of the process
- Ensure IOP, SOP, KPI in place and constantly optimized
- Drive process change to make us easy to do business

As a member of the leadership team you are expected to be a role model in all aspects of the job and drive and take ownership of all issues within your area of responsibility as well as other unaddressed issues, which come to your attention.
You are expected to challenge the status quo, speak up, and question issues you do not understand or agree to. Also when they originate from higher levels in the organization!
Once decisions and policies have been challenged and discussed you are expected to back the decision or policy allowing the management team to act as one. Justifying or communication an issue by saying "My manager said so" or similar is not acceptable.
You are expected to handle your work independently, but also to involve your team leaders/members when you need assistance and when it is relevant for your team leaders to be briefed about a specific issue, risk or development.
In all aspects you are expected to be solution oriented – i.e. when you bring up issues you are expected to bring up suggested solutions at the same time along the thought of “If we're not part of the solution then we're part of the problem!”
You are expected to join the weekly team leader meeting as well as all related meetings and workshops to share best practices, creating a team and stay in regular contact.

? Ocean market insight and experience, freight forwarding experience at least 8 years is a plus
? Strong interpersonal and interpersonal communication skills
? Willingness to learn and can-do attitude

? Excellent written and spoken English is a must

? Good financial understanding
? Analytical skills
? Proven negotiation skills
