Responsibility:
Manage and lead the engineering representation at the customer in the region (or for product group) under the guidance of the Global Chief Engineer
? Establish and develop effective relationships with customer engineering functions
? Promote the GKN brand at the customer, and leverage relationships to proactively identify current, potential and future business opportunities in the region
? Sell the value of GKN Driveline’s technical solutions and technical capability at the customer and how these can deliver against the customer’s technical challenges
? Represent GKN at customer, industry and academic events as required
? Provide input to the Global Chief Engineer and Account team for development of the customer strategy and Driveline product strategy
? Execute the customer strategy in alignment with GKN Driveline’s product strategy
? Provide technical input to the sales and marketing account team
? Provide technical leadership in customer account and programme reviews both at the customer and in internal reviews
? Identify potential opportunities to secure customer funding for development activities
? Act as the escalation route for the customer account in the region should any technical issues arise and if necessary lead technical problem solving and corrective actions at the customer
? Keep Global Chief Engineer up to date on all account issues and involve them as customer escalation route as required
? Support the Global Chief Engineer on the engineering portion of internal GKN approval processes required to define all aspects of a new business proposition i.e. TPAC, NBA Q-P-S
? Coordinate the provision of specialist technical support as required for customer engineering discussions/proposals, product application, product launch, problem solving and continuous improvement activities in the region
? In agreement with the Global Chief Engineer:
o Approve customer application product selection in accordance with Driveline’s technical and business processes
o Ensure technical specifications and scope of engineering work is correctly reflected in contract documentation
o Liaise with and support engineering site managers to ensure appropriate budgeting and resource planning of customer account application programmes and engineering technology requirements at a site level to be input into the global project tracking system
? Regularly review resource allocation and utilization against budget for customer account programmes in the region and take any necessary corrective action in agreement with the Global Chief Engineer
? Implement in the region appropriate engineering structures/resource as defined by the Global Chief Engineer to deliver customer requirements
? Lead and support the regional customer account team structure of Programme Engineering Managers, Platform Engineering Managers and Application Engineers.
? Coordinate, manage and appraise the performance of the regional account team
? Develop the capability of the regional engineering account team.
? Support direct reports in their roles within the account team
? Support manufacturing teams with technical and customer inputs in the product launch process.
? Support Value engineering activities in the customer account
? Support other Driveline activities as required
? Support and promote a safe working environment in accordance with Driveline’s policies/procedures and local/regional legislation
? Define, develop and set priorities for the elimination and/or prevention of defects related to product safety during the product development phase (fault prevention).
Product Safety
? Adhere to the GKN Product Safety Policy and Product Safety Procedure.
? In addition to the role for all employees, the chief engineer has a special role during development to be the functional safety leader for the program.
Define, develop and set priorities for the elimination and/or prevention of defects related to product safety during the product development phase (fault prevention).
? Lead DFMEA action plans to meet the Occurrence vs Severity risk matrix defined in GKN’s Special Characteristic Management procedure.
? Implement GPPC DFMEA and design templates to ensure lessons learned are applied to new programs.
? Implement immediate containment during PV when a PPSI is identified and lead the PPSI permanent corrective action process.

For non-global customers this role is resuming the full account-engineering responsibility.
