Key accountabilities/responsibilities
? Plans and manages the project delivery process for small to medium projects, from typically Feasibility to Handover & Close-out to assure an outcome which meets all of the defined project objectives for cost, schedule, quality (fit for purpose) & safety and delivers the business benefits
? Works with the RPD, Project Sponsor and managers in Local Operating Companies (LOCs) and Group to clearly define project business drivers, objectives and success criteria
? Prepares the Project Plan documenting the project delivery strategy and the success criteria (the prioritised project objectives) according to the PM Standard with support from the PM Champion
? Establishes a Quality Plan for the project and is proactive in planning for quality
? Designs the project organisation structure, defines team member roles and assigns individual work responsibilities. Monitors, appraises, and upgrades individual and team performance as required, to assure project success. Instils a proactive, “can do” attitude within the project and purveys a “preventive rather than corrective” mentality
? Uses proven selection processes to develop the appropriate contract strategy for the project, selects and manages contractors and settles any claims in accordance with company policy
? Defines the overall commissioning & handover strategy that fully complies with the PM Standard and implements to ensure a timely and complete handover to the Customer
? Implements strict project and financial controls using the “Six steps of project controls”, including procedures for change control / management, cost control / forecasting, physical progress / productivity measurement, and invoice review / payment
? Develops a risk management strategy for a straightforward project and implements associated processes and tools to ensure effective identification, monitoring and management of project risk
? Prepares monthly progress reports according to the PM Standard. Keeps the RPD informed of critical issues that could jeopardise project success.
Key Job Dimensions
? Manages small to medium projects in a structured environment e.g. on a highly capable site or where support/advice is readily available
? Senior team member on a large project e.g. engineering manager/ design co-ordinator, PM of a small project within an overall programme, construction manager
? Able to lead project team. In this role the holder would be the “top person” on the project.
? Typical project size would be £5-15 million ($8-25m) capital with the complexity associated with a pharma, Consumer Healthcare or R&D facility and a project duration of 18-24 months
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
? Have an engineering degree or equivalent
? Possess at least two experiences and have demonstrated success as a PM or SPE on small projects
? Willing to travel extensively and potentially take global assignments
DESIRED
? 10 years experience post graduation, predominantly in project management disciplines (project controls, project engineering, construction and safety, procurement of equipment / goods, contractor selection / management, etc).
? Sound technical expertise in project/ maintenance engineering over a significant period, with a focus on the application of a particular technical expertise to pharmaceutical / fine chemicals / factory utilities, FMCG or research laboratory / buildings.
? Multiple language capability
