Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer – Contract Manufacturing and Supplier Quality Development

The ideal candidate for this role will have demonstrated skills and work experiences in Supplier Quality Development / Improvement, Managing Manufacturing / Process Quality including Incoming, In-Process, Outgoing Quality during New Product Introduction (NPI), Mass Production and Sustaining phases of product life cycle. The position will have responsibility to lead and manage the “Quality” at GoPro’s vendor throughout product / program life cycle with focus on the entire manufacturing and process quality, including implementation of product quality plans, facilitation of root cause analysis and corrective actions, driving process improvements and deployment of supplier development and improvement by coaching, providing training as well as monitoring the improvement progress so as to enhance supplier capability to meet GoPro’s requirement.
 
 
What You Will Do

- Spend majority of time (50%) at Key component suppliers and (50%) at Contract Manufacturing Facility located in South China / Shenzhen / Dongguan / Guangdong
- Actively participates in NPI development phases i.e. EVT, DVT, PVT working hand in hand with Product Quality Engineering / Mechanical / Design and Operations teams
- Address Manufacturing Quality related issues discovered during NPI and Mass Production Phases. Interact with Supplier Component, Tooling and Process, Product Quality, Development and Operations Engineering to address Process / Product / CM or Component issues discovered during the NPI / Mass Production phases with goal of immediate resolution of issues. Leads root cause analysis and provides updates to management and peers
- Escalates Issues related to all Contract Manufacturing or component supplier issues discovered during NPI or Mass production at Contract Manufacturing towards rapid resolution and corrective action. Uses bug reporting system (JIRA) to capture, update and track issues
- Ensures and validates that Contract Manufacturing processes are capable of delivering the product per GoPro requirements. Conducts audits of the manufacturing processes with focus on process capability, training, SOP content, standardization, line and process identification (Visual Management), compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (Training, ESD, 5S, Identification of rejected material, etc.)
- Ensures that specific cosmetic requirements at product and key component are communicated to vendor and reflected in vendor’s control plans to ensure full cosmetic compliance. Facilitates vendor feedback to Product ID / Designs
- Drives development and delivery of PFMEA, Control Plan, Incoming Quality Plan, Outgoing Quality Plan for products and related components arriving at vendor in coordination with tooling, component and product quality teams. Coaches suppliers in developing / deploying robust quality system and quality improvement program (advance quality plan, FMEA, SPC, Problem solving)
- Drives suppliers for improvement action implementation and monitors performance
- Aligns IQC and OQC plans and measurement techniques
- Validates that Critical to process characteristics / dimensions critical to final assembly are measured and reported accurately. Ensures that Cp, Cpk data is collected and reported properly as applicable in collaboration with Product Quality, Operations and Engineering
- Reviews first pass and final yield data collected and reported during NPI and Mass Production. Ensures and validates that vendor processes are capable of achieving yield targets set for NPI (1st pass yields). Monitors yields and takes action to improve yields as processes matures
- Educates suppliers to understand GoPro internal processes
- Conducts onsite training at supplier locations
- Performs suppliers assessments and develop supplier quality improvement plan. Publishes reports on supplier improvement progress
- In sustaining mode, facilitates resolution of all vendor related quality issues related to the projects / products

Skills We’re Excited About
 
- Bachelor Degree in Quality Management, Science or Engineering. Master’s degree is highly preferred
- 10-15 years of experience in consumer electronics supplier quality management and development. Previous experience working with U.S. and other international companies is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of Quality System management, Six Sigma methods and practices, FMEA, Control plans, SPC, MSA, PPAP, Lean manufacturing.
- Six Sigma Certified (Black Belt)
- Previous experience working in consumer electronics (CE) with strong working knowledge of Surface Mount Technology, Assembly, Test and Process Control and Management
- Ability to work on multiple issues and projects
- Certified ISO auditor is highly preferred
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Fluent in English & Mandarin with excellent verbal and written communication in English.
