As a technology business, there is an immediate plan to take the company’s manufacturing equipment to the next level, improving performance and efficiency. It is essential that these machines, and accessories are developed to the highest standard to ensure they can be seamlessly transferred to the manufacturing team and customer sites.

This person will be a key player in the design and development of machine accessories and retro-fits, for both current and new equipment and automation. They will also be highly involved in identifying and solving problems related to production processes, equipment, and manufacturability.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and will ultimately ensure that the company’s innovative technology is implemented and maintained efficiently and within the parameters defined.

In addition, there will be development projects looking at re-designing the systems and trialling new hardware as the individual projects dictate.

Main Responsibilities
? Conceptualizes, designs, and develops 3D models and 2D drawings for the improvement of current and future manufacturing processes; applying knowledge of component / product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors, and soliciting observations from operators
? Develops concepts by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and prototyping
? Works in conjunction with automation engineering in the design of jigs and fixtures for “ease of manufacturability” and quality (repeatability) improvement
? Project manages with hands-on ownership of all aspects of prototype developments, from detailed design through to final validation
? Ensure all prototypes are built to the correct/desired standard and are validated for use
? Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed


Additional Responsibilities
? Assisting the R&D, Service & Support and Manufacturing teams as and when required (time permitting)

Key Relationships and Interfaces
? Line Manager for day-to-day direction
? Engineering, R&D team, S&S and Manufacturing

Education / Qualifications
? Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering (preferred); other technical qualifications considered

Essential Skills & Experience
? 10+ years in mechanical design role
? Strong Solidworks design capabilities (component & assemblies); other design packages considered
? An extensive knowledge of a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes is required – preferably, but not limited to, machining, plastic injection moulding and stamping
? The candidate needs excellent problem solving skills and must possess and be able to demonstrate a flair for creativity and innovation
? ‘Cradle to grave’ development experience, with exposure to supplier sourcing, prototyping, design validation, mass production release
? BOM creation and management
? Must be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.
? Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels

? English
? Mandarin

Desirable Skills & Experience
? Design calculations and the application of advanced simulation / CAE techniques
? Creating / participating in FMEAs
? Design of Experiment programs and Design Verification Plans
? Experience of CE / UL standards would be advantageous
? Participating in activities with cross disciplinary project teams
