General Responsibilities:

Based out of Belkin International's offices in Shenzen, China, the Senior Tooling Engineer will be responsible for managing the tooling processes at our Asia based suppliers for products engineered by the Belkin development teams and/or ODM. They will have to manage the entire process from understanding the design engineers' vision and requirements, through tool design, all the way until tooling qualification for production. They provide moldability, toolability and cost optimization feedback during the various phases of the development process. They help qualify, optimize and troubleshoot the tools to ensure a smooth transition into production. The engineer will work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing engineers, Program Managers, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Sourcing and OEM/ODM vendors to ensure product development objectives, budgets and schedules are met.

The selected candidate may train in the Playa Vista, California office for a period of time, prior to working in the Shenzhen office.

Specific Responsibilities:

· Coordinate with and support the Mechanical engineering team to ensure product designs are cost effective, manufacturable and meet all functional and aesthetic requirements.

· Responsible for coordinating creation of tool design 3D databases and 2D drawings by tooling vendors and oversight of the tool fabrication and qualification in conjunction with the US and Asia based Mechanical Engineers.

· Provide toolability and moldability feedback to the Mechanical Engineering team through the various phases of development until product launch. Help make the Mechanical Engineering team make appropriate design, manufacturability and cost trade offs by applying their domain knowledge. Recommend capable equipment and processes.

· Provide tooling and part cost estimation to Mechanical Engineering team as needed.

· Perform Mold Flow analysis before tooling release to make sure all aesthetic, functional and structural goals can be met prior to tooling start. Also perform analysis for trouble shooting problem molds/parts and "What if?" analysis to provide design direction to the Mechanical engineering/tool design engineers.

· Work with Sourcing team to identify capable suppliers, assess their processes for capacity, quality and cost. Audit and qualify ODM/CM partners and tooling/molding vendors for Belkin programs.

· Work with Mechanical engineering, Program management, Purchasing and Forecasting teams to understand the program needs and develop an appropriate tooling plan.

· Review tooling and part quotations. Verify the validity of the quotes and provide feedback to the Development team.

· Provide input into schedule creation, program risks identification, and tooling priorities. Identify and escalate potential problems as soon as they become visible and manage issues through to resolution.

· Drive tooling suppliers and vendors, track their deliverables, manage risk and make schedules predictable, meet cost and quality targets

· Continually develop process specific knowledge related to all manufacturing processes including injection molding processing, insert molding, two-shot and multishot tooling, IMD and IML molding and tooling, Thixomolding, sheet metal, die-casting, CNC machining, forging etc. Maintain and share knowledge bases related to your areas of expertise with other Belkin functions and suppliers as applied to specific products in development or production.

· Provide support as needed for Product Acceptance Phase, which includes tooling qualification, DVT, PVT, and initial production ramp.

· Conduct Design Of Experiment (DOE) studies to optimize process variables and ensure process is under control.

· There is approximately a 40% domestic (Southern China) travel required.

· Occasional travel to US and Hong Kong maybe required

Education and Experience Requirements:

· BSME minimum, MSME preferred, with 8 plus years experience in tool injection mold design, fabrication and qualification required in a high volume consumer electronic product tooling environment. Must be able to balance technical and business requirements of tooling programs. Engineering management or program management experience a plus.

· Experience managing complex injection mold tooling development programs with Chinese/Asia vendors a must.

· Experience with tooling and part cost estimation and schedule development.

· Experience with insert molding, two-shot and multishot tooling and processing is desired. IMD and IML molding experience is a plus.

· Knowledge of injection mold processing particularly with engineering grade resins is required.

· A good understanding of and experience with plastic finishing, decorating, sonic welding and other secondary operations is a plus.

· Hands on experience in a fast paced and high quality manufacturing environment with a good working understanding of high volume manufacturing process is preferred.

· Proven track record (with examples) of successfully developing complex injection mold tool design using 3D CAD tool, documentation and fabrication.

· Good problem solving skills especially in relation to trouble shooting problem molds, aesthetic defects, part failure, processing issues, etc.

· Solid understanding of DOE, GD&T, and SPC methodologies are required.

· Experience in sheet metal forming, tool design, finishing and fabrication is a plus.

· At least four years experience with 3D CAD. ProEngineer/ProDetail experience preferred.

· Demonstrable experience with Mold Flow software to improve quality, cycle time, reduction in tooling qualification time, trouble shooting and "What if?" analysis is important.

· Experience working with cross-functional teams managing multiple projects concurrently.

· Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) with the product development teams in the USA.

· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint experience a must.
