POSITION SUMMARY

* To provide technical support, operating system support, database support and services for the enterprise class systems in FedEx Trade Networks regions
* Identify server software, hardware, database and communications problems, working closely with senior team members to assist business community users and other information systems and technology departments with the isolation and resolution of these problems

PRINCIPLE DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Reviews, analyzes, installs, and modifies computer operating systems and database systems directed by senior systems personnel to ensure a highly available and stable enterprise system environment.
* Troubleshoots and resolves problems associated with operating systems, database systems and all connectivity between those systems. Detects, diagnoses, repairs, and reports related problems.
* Demonstrates skills in concepts, practices, and procedures. Develops personal experiences and uses the experiences of senior operating systems personnel to plan and accomplish goals.
* Gathers user requirements to refine business processes and develops design proposals required to code, test and implement solutions of low-to-medium complexity.
* Co-develops and/or modifies system software, database and system specifications comply with business requirements. Keeps documentation current.
* Collaborates on projects with other information systems and technology departments.
* Assists help desk and programmers as needed.
* Complies with all IS&T policies and procedures including the sox-mandated change-management procedure.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

* 2 year degree in computer science, mis. or related discipline is required.
* Typically 3+ year experiences in operating systems administration & technical support.
* Advanced computer software installation, configuration, design, and problem resolution knowledge.
* Knowledge and skills with windows desktop operating systems, Linux operating systems, vitual machines, and windows server operating systems.
* Enterprise san, IBM Iseries, Zseries (duplex), knowledge of TC/PIP communications, Lan environments, and basic configuration of ethernet peripherals.
* Knowledge and skill with database products, technologies, relational design, modeling, capacity planning and functionality.
* Knowledge of office wiring, cabling, hub/switch connections.
* Fluent in English both written and speaking.
* Advanced verbal and written communication skills are required for documentation, organization, and interaction with management/peers/business community.
* Ability to communicate projects of various size and complexity.
* Highly-developed sense of responsibility.
