Summary of Job Description:
- Ensures specific parts used in manufactured products and systems are reliable and effective The work is involved during research, development, compliance and production stages of manufacturing
- Serve as primary lead/contact to coordinate between research, design, procurement, quality, testing, and manufacturing engineering teams for selection, approval/qualification, documentation, and management of purchased electronic/mechanical components


Responsibilities:
- Reviews new component requests to ensure a current part can satisfy the requirements
- Assists design engineers in the component specification, selection, and approval process
- Consolidates new part specifications
- Maintains component vendors relationships
- Assists procurement team with cost analysis for components used and selected for new programs
- Value Engineering: assists procurement team in identifying potential opportunities in alternate components/ vendors, i.e.2nd sourcing of components and vendors
- Collaborates with functional teams to down-select and qualify alternate components/vendors opportunities
- Reviews and approves component part numbers and standardized descriptions for all new materials within the corporate PDM systems
- Assists design engineers in generating/consolidating component specifications and approving drawings for any custom components.
- Authorizes Engineering Change Order (ECO).
- Consolidates component level functional test requirements
- Coordinates with Quality team to ensure all parts and processes used meet required safety and environmental standards such as RoHS and WEEE
- Coordinates with manufacturing engineering team and CMs to conduct product level qualification testing
- Monitors life cycle of designed-in components and provides support to solve component E&O (Excess & Obsolete) and availability (lead-time and pricing) issues
- Coordinates failure analysis and corrective action activities related to component quality issues

Requirement:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent educational qualification (Engineering Technologist diploma)
- 4 to 8 years of experience in the field of components engineering or electronic/mechanical product design.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Highly organized with good attention to detail and strong time management skills
- Excellent people and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer literate: Demonstrable comfort with Internet E-mail, web-searching, Word, Excel required
- Familiar with corporate PLM and ERP systems
- Demonstrates interests and familiarity with emerging technology and technology roadmaps
