Sr. Manufacturing Process Engineer - New Product, China/Asia

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer within the Microsoft Device Group (MDG), you will be responsible for implementing device manufacturing strategy to drive the supply base towards Best in Class Manufacturing practices. This individual will provide Manufacturing Engineering technical guidance and Project Engineering Management leadership to Microsoft’s Global consumer electronic manufacturing/repair operations. Priority will be to support the development and manufacturing start-up of new product, new contract manufacturing facilities and new assembly processes. Other responsibilities include driving continuous process improvement and operational excellence initiatives. This position’s core focus is managing large scale projects, leading or supporting a cross functional team at the assigned suppliers. The candidate should also be a strong team player who motivates peers and team, drive root causes analysis to derive actionable data and implement corrective actions timely (by identifying clear problem ownership and take leadership to drive issues to closure with various functional teams and supplier), communicates status with peers, management and other stakeholders; quickly resolves issues that impede progress of projects or programs. It is critical to have an established history of leading and influencing change of a technical team.

Core Job Responsibilities:

- Lead new manufacturing projects in support of Microsoft end-to-end (e2e) product development and introduction process.

- Implement Manufacturing Strategy by leading or participating with a team of technical resources at manufacturing sites and/or CMs

- Develop manufacturing processes and techniques in support of new product introduction

- Support new factory bring up and process implementation

- Achieve end to end Process Yield and Efficiency targets established for process phases

- Identify project capital and non-capital equipment needed for projects; ensure its successful implementation

- Statement of Work management (may be responsible for contract compliance management with suppliers)

- Manufacturing Processes & Tools Development & Implementation in support of Operational Excellence

- Standardize manufacturing process across major sites

- Ensure proper process documentations at manufacturing site(s)

- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives and best practices

- Approve and assists with implementation of procedures, process changes and/or ECNs

- Frequent travels to manufacturing sites is required

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated work experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, product design, including high volume smartphone development and manufacturing

- BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field and/or equivalent hands-on experience is required

- Ability to define problems and associated root causes, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical data and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Hands-on competent DOE experience is a big plus

- Demonstrated ability to manage large projects/programs

- Strong working knowledge of domestic and/or international business practices.

- Strong demonstrated ability to write, speak and present information effectively and persuasively across communication settings (English/Mandarin combination a big plus)

- Demonstrated experience in re-engineering efforts and statistical analysis (Lean & Six Sigma experience)

Self-sufficient PC skills: Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, MS project, etc.
