Purpose of Job:

1. Support Australia teams retail stores merchandise assortment in order to maximize sales and gross margin dollar contribution.
2. Manage risk through the assortment process by attaining product specific vendor-tested quality reports, certificate of analysis, when available to maintain on file in the Shenzhen office.
3. Facilitate vendor partnerships through negotiation and communication to ensure competitive pricing and terms, market positioning, and timely delivery.
4. Develop vendor relationships, preferably at the CEO/Principle level, to ensure visibility and benefit from top-level interactions.
5. Analyze market factors and competitive environment to effectively mitigate risk.
6. Identify promotional opportunities to drive incremental sales and gross margin dollars.

Impact on the Organization: (Accountability, Supervisory Responsibility)

1. Accountable for sales dollars, gross margin dollars and gross margin percent for assigned categories. Directly impacts EBIT and cash flow.
2. Impacts marketing decisions by creating and directing in store promotions, consumer advertising/marketing initiatives and in-store signage.
3. Critical impact on overall Retail Division and WKI profitability through vendor negotiations.

Decision Making Framework:

1. Advises Director of Merchandising, President and other merchants and function heads of marketplace trends and opportunities and recommends action.
2. Aggressively pursues and present item and category opportunities.
3. Responsible for fashion management and core merchandise assortment, coverage, and strategy in assigned categories.
4. Responsible for providing prices to match pricing strategy of business while identifying ways to maximize gross margin dollars.
5. Meet/exceed adoption rate of items procured against market wish-list product and targets.

Budget/Sales Volume:

1. Directly responsible for gross margin dollars and gross margin percent budgets for assigned categories.

Communication and Level of Contacts:

1. Works directly with senior management and country specific merchants and planning/allocators.

2. Takes direction from and gives feedback to the country merchant.
3. Provide product specific selling attributes

Level of Education and Experience Required for the Position:

1. BS in a business related field.

2. Candidate will have a proven and successful track record of buying / inventory planning/marketing experience in a housewares environment.

3. +2 years buying experience in a major retail environment, preferably in the housewares industry.

4. Ability to quickly analyze and anticipate consumer buying needs and trends within the housewares industry.

5. Ability to function in a fast paced, ever changing, demanding and dynamic environment a must.

6. Exceptional communication, organization, analytical, multi-tasking and business building relationship skills required.

7. Proven competency in Microsoft Excel required.
