SENIOR ENGINEERING MANAGER (SHENZHEN OFFICE)


SUMMARY:

This is a senior leadership role, fully qualified engineering level position, with knowledge of one or more areas of specialization, managing projects and a multi-disciplinary team of other engineers and non-technical staff. Directs the Shenzhen team engaged in new product introduction and existing product enhancement activities.


ACCOUNTABILITIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • This position requires the application of program and business management techniques to manage both projects and the department. Application of engineering concepts and knowledge to evaluate solutions for risk, schedule, quality, performance etc.
  • This position requires an individual who is passionate on new technologies, understanding the market, continuous improvement, and leadership.
  • Provide senior leadership to a team of engineering professionals assigned to product development.
  • Contribute to planning future developments. Collaborate with local management, counterparts in Canada, and other stakeholders to define needs of the department and/or project teams.
  • Risk management to ensure all products / solutions within assignment are developed and subsequently manufactured to meet safety and regulatory standards, and Christies’ expectations for quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Requires project management, communication, team leadership and work coordination skills to integrate work efforts of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Accountable for expenditure of money in the implementation of projects.
  • Overall management of the engineering department in Shenzhen. This can include recruitment, retention, training, performance management and professional development.
  • Help department staff to make decisions and take actions necessary to ensure successful accomplishment of assigned projects & goals for local team.
  • Help identify local partnerships and outsourcing options for engineering related work.
  • Travel at least quarterly to Canada for discussions, planning, and collaboration

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:


  • Reports directly to Global Engineering Manager in Canada (reporting to VP of Global Engineering in Canada) and dotted line responsibility to General Manager at Christie Shenzhen.
  • Manage engineering personnel, non-engineering professionals, and project management professionals at Christie Shenzhen.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • MBA and/or Master’s degree preferred

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION(S):

  • Licensed professional engineering designation for ethical practice (eg. P.Eng, P.E.)
  • PMP

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 – 10 years relevant engineering experience plus 5 years program management or senior management related experience to be qualified for the role
  • International travel and international business experience

ELEMENTS TO BE LEARNED BY EXPERIENCE IN A SPECIFIC INDUSTRY OR AT CHRISTIE:


  • Christie specific technologies and specialty areas (i.e. visual display technologies, precision optical, video processing, mechatronic control systems, advanced software control systems, advanced injection molding, etc.)
  • Advanced understanding of product commercialization process, from concept to launch
  • Industry specific/geographic specific regulations & legislation

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:


  • Management skills applied in engineering services or product development
  • Business fundamentals, project management, and negotiation
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Comprehensive English (oral and written)
