Environmental Product Compliance Engineer

Location: Beijing or Shenzhen, China

The MSC Safety, Compliance and Sustainability Team has an immediate opening in Beijing or Shenzhen, China for an Environmental Product Compliance Engineer who will be responsible for working on environmental regulatory and sustainability requirements related to Microsoft’s packaging and hardware devices. Are you ready to join a dedicated compliance engineering organization in one of the world’s best software, consumer electronics and entertainment companies? Help define and drive internal compliance and sustainability best practices through the entire product life cycle. This position will report to the Manager of Microsoft Mobility Devices in the Safety, Compliance and Sustainability team.

The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and drive Microsoft Devices Group’s environmental compliance requirements and co-ordinate and promote Microsoft’s Environmental requirements within the hardware community. This position is critical to Microsoft in establishing an international reputation for its regulatory compliance and hardware and packaging sustainability strategy.

Responsibilities

- Ensure that environmental requirements are implemented in products and product related environmental information is gathered and provided into relevant channels, with the intent to manage and reduce Microsoft’s significant environmental compliance risks..

- Recognize and facilitate implementation of best practices across product groups.

- Communicate environmental requirements and status updates to product development teams and Microsoft management.

- Function as an environmental specialist on product development teams.

- Promotion of sustainable and regulatory requirements into Microsoft Devices mobility products.

- Collect documentation and evidence necessary for verifying compliance requirements are met.

- Advise Product development teams on matters relating to the environment and sustainability status of Microsoft hardware products.

- Successful integration within a global team of experienced and highly motivated environmental compliance experts.

Qualifications

- At least five years of relevant job experience in consumer electronics.

- Experience in the successful implementation and championing of environmental regulatory and sustainability requirements for electronic products.

- Track record of being an enthusiastic and effective team player with experience of leading and influencing internal and external resources to ensure successful outcomes.

- Strong technical and project management skills.

- Must be flexible, innovative and collaborative.

- Ability to influence vertically and horizontally.

- Very strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write and speak in English is mandatory. Strong proficiency in Chinese (mandarin) and Japanese preferred.

- Substantial experience in effectively designing and implementing end-to-end projects requiring cross-group collaboration and implied authority.

- Knowledge and use of compliance management tools and IT systems for product compliance management is a plus.

- Role model integrity and leadership

- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Science or other related subject together with a good understanding of the IT and consumer electronics industries.
