Job Description
The Applications Engineering Manager manages the Trackpad hardware, firmware, software, and validation engineering teams to ensure that products are completed on time with no defects. The Applications Engineering Manager will provide support to the marketing and business development organizations by providing feasibility and design paths for new technology concepts and product launches. This role requires a process oriented Manager that can identify development process defects and correct them. Interface to the Trackpad Program Management, Engineering and Manufacturing teams will be required. This role will require an excellent understanding of root cause and corrective action process. This role must efficiently manage the workload and capabilities of the Trackpad engineering teams in order to decrease Cypress’ product development cycle. The primary responsibilities will be focused in 11 areas:
1. Management of day-to-day activities for the Trackpad engineering teams (firmware, hardware, software, and validation)
2. Provide technical guidance/feedback to Trackpad marketing and business development organizations.
3. Drive true root cause and corrective action process to address defects and ensure they are not reproduced.
4. Development process ownership and documentation.
5. Engage with project management on resource allocation and project schedule confirmation
6. Engagement with Manufacturing teams to develop new processes or proposals for new product features/functions
7. Provide direct interface to the customer for Product or Manufacturing defect resolution and closure
8. Hiring of new engineering talent and continued development of current resources
9. Mentor, guide, and motivate members of the Trackpad engineering team to help them grow their skills.
10. Interface with cross functional engineering teams across the Cypress organization
11. Assess technical priorities and shift focus accordingly
Required Skills
? Ability to work with and manage a cross-functional engineering organization
? Strong analytical, problem-diagnosis, problem-reproduction, and problem-solving abilities.
? Knowledge of testing methodologies and quality assurance techniques with the ability to implement processes.
? Quick learner with high quality mindset
? Excellent Documentation skills is required
? Experience in system solutions, including Hardware, Firmware and Software disciplines
? C programming experience
? Ability to own and update development processes for continuous improvement
? Experience with Windows Software eco-system and embedded products is desired
? Ability to understand product requirements and provide concise feedback on feasibility and recommendations
? Review, analyze and disposition of product releases and test results
? Ability to manage firmware, hardware, and software design resources and priorities
? Good customer facing skills ? Fluent in English (both written and oral)
? Effectively communicate with remote and local team members.
? 7-10 years of experience in consumer electronics industry
? Prior experience in Touchpad/Touchscreen and PC/PC
? Peripheral Market is preferred
? Previous or current hands on technical experience in Hardware, Firmware and/or Software disciplines
? Knowledge of 8D Root Cause/Corrective Action process;
? Formal Training is desired Master’s Degree in CS/EE/CE/SE;
? Bachelor’s Degree (4 year college) is acceptable based on candidate experience.
