SUMMARY

The Server Engineer provides operational support and management of global server services within the PTC technical infrastructure. This role will be a member of the team responsible for the management, uptime and support of Windows Server, Unix (Solaris, Linux, HPUX) and Virtualization (VMware ESX) environments across the globe.

Success in this role requires system administration skills, organization, planning, and communication skills. You must also be intolerant of manual activities that will impede reliability, scaling, and efficiency. You must be willing and able to find ways to automate critical and repetitive tasks to ensure consistent execution at scale, while limiting mistakes.

Responsibilities:
? Responsible for delivering a highly reliable Enterprise Server environment to support the PTC technical infrastructure, as well as providing recommendations for effective and efficient server system use.
? Knowledgeable of industry best practices in the implementation of complex server environments.
? Administers the operational execution of the PTC's server disaster recovery process
? Develop systems, automation, processes, and tools designed to make deploying, updating, monitoring, and supporting the infrastructure simpler, more efficient, more reliable, and faster
? Participate in troubleshooting, capacity planning and analysis, along with performance analysis activities
? Performs necessary server infrastructure maintenance in accordance with PTC’s change management policies

General Qualifications:
? 3+ years of hands-on operational experience in a high-volume and critical production service environment

Technical Qualifications:
? Advanced knowledge of Server Operating systems, such as Windows Server, Sun Solaris, Linux, and VMware virtualization environments
? Experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server environments.
? In-depth hardware configuration knowledge
? Some knowledge of Oracle, RMAN, Veritas NetBackup, and Enterprise Storage and SAN environments

Communication Qualifications:
? Strong ability to communicate precisely in both written and verbal forums
? Works well with peers and team members to build a stronger team both inside and outside the assigned area of responsibility

Education:
? BA/BS in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience
? Windows MCSE or VMware VCP certification desired
