Job description

1. Product Design: · Process Design: · Manufacturing Engineering, incl. tooling engineering plus · New Product Introduction (NPI) ·

2. Engineering Director leads all efforts related to the Group’s Product Designs (standard, modifications, customs) as well as the related New Product Introductions (Process/Manufacturing Engineering) into the manufacturing facility (ies). ·

3. The role requires to assess the team’s work based on latest new product development processes and standards (i.e. APQP, Lean Engineering Tools) to ensure the compliance to best-practices in the area of Product Design and New Product Introduction. ·

4. The job-holder needs to manage a team of design and process/tooling engineers/supervisors (metal production processes incl. welding, assembly) to ensure DFA (Design For Assembly) and DFM (Design For Manufacturing). ·

5. An additional responsibility is seen in the management of Project Engineers which are responsible for managing the projects from the initial specification development and concept design to SOP (Start Of Production) and beyond. VE (Value Engineering) is a critical aspect of the job role for products which got already introduced to the production.

Requirements

1. ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT of: · Product Design Engineering · New Product Introduction (NPI) · Manufacturing & Process Engineering · Tooling/Equipment Engineering · Project Engineering · Product Evaluation & Testing · ENGINEERING BEST PRACTICE: · DESIGN & PROCESS ENGINEERING:

2. Train, coach and assess engineering teams and design/project work based on best practise principals such as DFA (Design For Assembly), DFM (Design For Manufacturing, lean), Lean Engineering Tools &Poka Yoke next to others (such as basic Engineering Standards). Ensures quality is built into the product and process design. ·

3. PROJECT ENGINEERING: · Develop and implement robust & streamlined New Product Development Process based on customised best-in-class principals (i.e. APQP) with the aim to design and implement value-for-money (cost effective, reasonable) solutions in a reasonable amount of time and to a reasonable cost. Further to ensure the robust New Product Introduction into CowinGlobal’s production facility with the aim to manufacture products On Time, To Cost with the right (reasonable) quality. ·

4. Conduct Product and Process Design Reviews on a regular basis to ensure best practise principals are met as well as CowinGlobal’s and customer QDC targets are met · PROJECT MANAGEMENT: ·

5. Manages all Project Engineering efforts through the team members (Project Engineers) by monitoring the compliance of the New Product Development (NPD) Process in comparison with best-practise principals (Design Reviews, DFMEA, Control Plan, PFMEA, DV/PV Testing, etc.).

6. Assess, train and coach the Engineering Team members in key NPD disciplines. ·

7. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: · Monitors that engineering team is maintaining the overall project targets (QCD) · Approves overall project budgets and monitors spending ·

8. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: · Develops manpower plan in regards to acquired projects and ensures the use of engineers per program is done based on individual strength and weaknesses and importance of project ·

9. Leads/monitors technical feasibility study for new project · Gets group equally utilised with focusing on individual strengths and weaknesses · Keeps amount of necessary engineering hours to the lowest level possible without compromising quality of work ·

10. Works on efficiency improvements throughout the team · Sets individual goals per engineer per project (incl. appropriate timelines, budget hours, cost, …) and keeps track of them · BUDGET CONTROL · Develops/establishes annual engineering budget · Ensures and follows up that spending are within agreed budget in each category ·

11. Prepares justification for unplanned expenses in case of exceeding budget · Follows up departmental expenses/costs with involved parties · Estimates available engineering hours and keeps track of them on a monthly basis · Supports set up of a proper project budgeting process for each project (incl. control of costs/spending, engineering hours, etc.) · Tracks expenses/spending
