Specific Role Purpose
? Design, Development and Support of Middleware Applications which host products and solutions for the Online Channels for Consumers and soon Business and Enterprise
? Actively contribute in the definition of solutions and assessment of ideas, utilising our deep experience in online technologies
? Minimise outcome risk by accurately and continually estimating and reporting on progress and potential impediments to success
Re-use or build best-fit solutions on time and budget for Online's business partners
Specific Accountabilities
? Design, configure, develop and support middleware applications to host Web Applications and Web Services running on Solaris/Linux/Windows Operating Systems
? Configure and support Development, Test and Production environments
? Perform Operations duties on Development and Test environments
? Perform System Administration tasks to support the Development and Testing teams
o Source Code Repository Servers
o Build and Packaging Servers
o NAS Infrastructure
o Backup Servers
o DNS Servers
o LDAP Servers
o Monitoring and Alarming Servers
o Intranet Web Servers
o Wiki Servers
o Database Servers
o Proxy Servers
o Automated Build Servers
o Patching and Upgrades
? Review and comprehend business requirements and functional specifications. Creating and maintaining documentation to meet project deliverables and specifications such as:
o Middleware Application Designs
o Operations Manuals
o Wiki Information and Content
? Defect Analysis and Diagnostic Information Collection
? Working independently (within broad guidelines) to deliver business partner requirements as per agreed schedules, costs and quality targets by:
o Interacting effectively with the business partners to refine and understand the requirements
o Implementing solutions utilizing the team's software development and lifecycle processes
? Contributing to the assurance of the underlying performance and integrity of customers' services on production systems by:
o Providing responsive support and undertaking corrective action in areas of specialisation
o Complying with change management principles and processes
Specific Capabilities
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
? Bachelor of Computing Sciences / Engineering / IT
Expert Experience in:
? Administration and configuration of Solaris 10 servers with a heavy focus on Solaris 10 zones
? Administration and configuration of Redhat and SUSE Linux servers
? Administration and configuration of Tomcat and JBoss servers
? Network analysis and design
? Perl, Shell and/or Python Scripting
? Writing technical documentation
Advanced Experience in:
? Windows administration and configuration (Windows Server 2000/2003, XP)
? Solaris Jumpstart
? Puppet Automated Server Builds
? EMC NetWorker Backups
? Administration and configuration of Nagios servers
? Database Technologies such as MySQL, MS-SQL or Oracle
? Java Development Experience
? Initiative tracking and reporting
Knowledge in 50% of:
? Network Load Balancing, Caches, Proxy Servers and Tunnels
? Familiarity with core web and network RFC's
? Security Technologies: MD5, DES, SSL, RSA, Certificate Management
? Administration of Subversion Source Code Repositories
? Administration of Hudson Build Servers
? Network Troubleshooting
? Server Hardware Troubleshooting
