Role synopsis

The Acetyls Business is committed to delivering upper quartile reliability and operations performance at all its Manufacturing Assets. In recent years the reliability of these assets has been largely contingent on the performance of the associated syngas plants which have suffered from poor reliability. In order to strengthen the capability in the syngas area a Syngas Operations Specialist is sought with a purpose to provide technical based interventions and advise to improve the reliability and efficiency of the syngas operations at all of the Acetyls assets , both owned and third party. The new role will compliment and strengthen the capabilities of Feedstock’s Technology Team, in addition to the technical teams at the assets.

Key accountabilities

Develop strong relationships with all Syngas assets, wholly owned and third parties. Maintain relationships through regular visits and assessment of performance.
Monitor Syngas assets reliability performance following up any unreliability events to fully investigate root cause through RCFA.
Intervene to identify and implement reliability improvement actions at Syngas assets.
Monitor syngas assets efficiency performance.
Intervene to identify and implement reliability improvement actions at Syngas assets.
Where appropriate manage efficiency improvement actions as CI projects and leverage these across multiple Sites.
Share best practice and lessons learned across assets through regular face to face visits, focussed workshops or User Conferences whilst maintaining Licensor Confidentiality.
Work with Syngas Licensors and Technology Providers to bring their experience to bear as required.
Bring the Operational know how in order to strengthen the overall Syngas capability and leverage this into Growth and Process Improvement Projects.

Capabilities

In addition to having the technical skills and knowledge the individual must also be able to demonstrate the skills and behaviours required to work closely with manufacturing teams. To have sufficient influencing and coaching skills to be able to improve the operations of the assets without necessarily having direct accountability or control. Experience of working in a Joint Venture and or managing/coaching a number of plants would be advantageous.

Be able to demonstrate personal responsibility for safey , both operational/behavioural and process safety of plant.
Show respect for the capabilities of those in safety critical roles and be able to listen/implement their advice.
Strong Interpersonal skills. The ability to form strong relationships with key individuals based upon trust and honest discussion.
Strong team player based upon being inclusive, being able to listen and valuing different perspectives.
Strong Syngas plant operations experience. Be able to demonstrate systematic management, the application of standards, elimination of defects to improve plant efficiency and reliability.
Strong technical knowledge of a range of Syngas technologies.
Understanding of basic IP and confidentiality issues.
Experience of performing RCFA and/or other reliability tools and techniques.
Track record of implementing successful plant improvement projects.
Experience of implementing CI projects and CI tools preferable.

Essential Education
Strong engineering background and degree based qualification.

Essential experience and job requirements
The ideal candidate for this role would have considerable experience of Syngas assets, from both a Technical and Operations perspective. It would be advantageous to have that experience in a breadth of technologies and at different manufacturing assets.
Experience of Syngas assets, both Technical and Operational, with ten years or more relevant work.
Experience of working within a Joint Venture preferable.
Experience of working at or with different plants in different locations. The role has an expectation of approx. 25% travel , primarily within China and the Asia region.
