Key Accountabilities

• Participate in the development of mechanical parts with complicated geometries and high cosmetic requirements and be responsible for manufacturing prototypes for engineering review.
• Provide solutions for manufacturing prototyes for a wide range of mechanical parts and materials.
• Be responsible for programming and performing operational functions on a variety of CNC and manual machines for prototype parts machined to specification.
• Responsible for ensuring the safe operation of machines and that necessary precautions are observed in the machining workshop.
• Mounting, installing, aligning, and securing tools, attachments, fixtures, and work-pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Review part specifications, determine the sequence of machine operations, and select the proper cutting tools needed to machine prototypes into the desired geometries.
• Calculate optimum machine feed and speed rates and monitor the ratios during the machining process .
• Modify programs to improve the machining process or improve finished part quality.
• Work closely with the engineering team on materials selection and manufacturing process definition.
• Measure, examine, or test completed parts to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers, CMM etc.
• Develop machine preventative maintenance plans and ensure machine tools are in proper operational condition at all times.

Key Skills and Experience

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• 5-8 years experience in a Technician role, programming and operating 5 axis CNC and milling machines
• Experience working with a wide range of materials including plastics, metals and alloys & a good understanding of high volume manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrated experience working with parts/products with challenging tolerance and cosmetic requirements
• Demonstrated DFM experience and proven track record of innovative machining solutions for highly complex parts
• Excellent materials and secondary process manufacturing knowledge such as polishing, grinding, painting
• Proficient in 3D CAD (such as Pro E or Solidworks) & CAM, and an ability to generate toleranced 2D drawings
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
• Familiar with industry leading test and inspection equipment
• An ability to communicate in English is desirable.
