The King’s School Shenzhen International is an international campus, educating students from Grades 1-12 (UK Years 2-13). The school’s curriculum follows a hybrid model comprised of the Cambridge curriculum and the UK National curriculum which has been developed with a horizontal and vertical alignment to ensure pupils can make contextual links and develop skills over time. Position overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced STEAM Teacher specialising in Computing and Design Technology to join our dedicated teaching team at King's School Shenzhen. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore the realms of technology, coding, and design, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to learning within the STEAM framework and creating projects closely linked to other areas of the curriculum the specific grade group is working with.
The role requires the teacher to work closely with the Design and Technology (DT) leader, and the assistant heads of prep and homeroom teachers. The post holder will also have responsibility for helping to design the computing schemes of work and programmes of study across the school per term through a cross-curricular medium-term plan.
The ability to teach another subject, such as science or mathematics, would be an advantage.
The Role
- Teach STEAM lessons at all levels in the school, helping to design the curriculum, preparing and delivering lessons and activities as directed by Assistant heads of prep and ensuring that King’s curriculum requirements are met
- Monitor behaviour and ensuring an atmosphere of mutual respect in the class
- Monitor pupil progress and assessing work
- Write reports and meeting parents as required
- Ensure that the class attendance register is accurately and efficiently kept
- Supervise play and lunch sessions as directed
- Ensure that the pupils’ welfare is prioritised at all times
- Being a member of one of the School’s Houses and supporting that House in arranged activities ensuring that the school’s safeguarding policy and procedures are met communicating with the SLT and parents as required
- To carry out boarding duties responsibly and fully in line with the School’s expectations and policy
- To contribute to the School’s co-curricular provision in the form of activities, clubs, etc., such as: sport, arts, academic enrichment and outdoor pursuits
- Co-operate with marketing and admissions
- To do other appropriate duties as directed by the School’s Leadership Team, such as:
o Attending staff meetings, in-service training, etc.
o Attending whole school events such as Foundation Day
o Serving on school committees
Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging Computing and Design Technology curriculum strongly developed through STEAM lessons and aligned with international standards and educational best practices.
- Integrate innovative teaching methodologies to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Classroom Instruction:
- Conduct dynamic and interactive lessons that captivate students' interest in STEAM.
- Facilitate hands-on projects and activities to enhance practical skills and real-world application.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Establish effective assessment strategies to evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Implement formative and summative assessments that align with learning objectives.
- Discuss with parents through communication tools such as Moments365 and through periodic PTCs
Technology Integration:
- Integrate cutting-edge technologies into the curriculum to enhance the learning experience
- Stay abreast of advancements in educational technology and incorporate relevant tools and resources
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with colleagues and subject leaders to promote interdisciplinary connections within the STEAM framework
- Work closely with assistant heads, Mr. Stephen Pearce and Ms. Sarah Hall to align teaching strategies with the school's educational objectives
School Life and Routines
All teachers have shared responsibility for the smooth daily running of the School as an entity - and for maintaining the general ethos, routine, and pedagogy in line with the King’s School’s Aims and Ethos – as directed within reason by the Prep School Head and assistant heads.
In so doing, they should:
- Ensure that the School’s rules and policies are maintained
- Attend School meetings and public events
- Support co-curricular events and activities
Safeguarding, Student Welfare and Pastoral Care
All teachers must:
- Ensure that they are fully aware of policies and practices with regard to safeguarding and student welfare
- Ensure that they adhere to the published systems
- Be role models to all students at all times
- Be prepared to do pastoral, tutorial work as designated by school leadership
Professional Development:
- Pursue continuous professional development to stay current with industry trends and pedagogical advancements
- Share expertise with colleagues through workshops and collaborative initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Computer Science, Design Technology or a related field (Master’s degree from overseas preferred)
- Teaching certification and/or relevant teaching experience in international settings
- Proficiency in programming languages and design software
- Strong knowledge of educational technology tools and their integration into the curriculum
- Licensed teacher status in China with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a closely related subject
- Native Chinese speaker and a high command of English, fully proficient in delivering content in either Chinese or English
- Coding skills
- At least 4 years of full-time documented teaching experience
- Experience teaching computer/coding-related clubs, after-school activities and external competitions is also an advantage
- A team player who proactively contributes to co-planning and curriculum development
