POSITION SUMMARY
This position is critical to BISSELL’s continued success in producing quality products for our consumers. This role works globally, with Engineering, Procurement, Consumer Design, Compliance and BISSELL manufacturers to ensure proper material selections are made for all our plastic components. Evaluations will need to be made to understand material performance and cost in both the design of new parts as well as parts already in production.
POSITION PROFILE
1. Provide guidance to Engineering, Quality, and Consumer design on appropriate plastic material selections through documented Design Guides.
2. Coordinate with Compliance to ensure material selections are agency recognized component materials as required.
3. Maintain BISSELL’s material library.
4. Research possible new materials to support BISSELL’s performance and surface requirements and to deliver advancements on material compliance and sustainability objectives.
5. Develop and maintain material standards to meet various BISSELL product performance requirements.
6. Develop and maintain testing procedures for materials in the materials 'Library.
7. Work cross functionally to drive cost, aesthetics, and performance targets.
8. Work with Consumer Design to define and maintain standards to achieve BISSELL color and colorant requirements.
9. Work with BISSELL manufacturers to ensure compliance with the materials standards.
10. Maintain departmental reporting of standards and metrics as needed for continuous improvement and growth.
11. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
12. Document colorant carrier to resin compatibility.
13. Document and maintain material and colorant certifications as needed.
14. Work with Advanced development team for material studies and technology advancements.
15. Work with Platforming Team to develop what materials are utilized as best practice within components and subsystems.
16. Work with the DFMA team for material CIP and quoting baselines.
17. Work with the Tooling and Simulation teams for material simulations to gain early understandings of material impacts.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Degree minimum: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Specific concentration: Engineering in Material Sciences
Experience level: 10 years of experience in the plastics and polymers industry.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING/EDUCATION PREFERRED
? Experience in Plastic engineering preferred or Material Science
? Mold shop experience
? Microsoft Products Expertise desired
SKILLS REQUIRED
? Material Testing
? UL, IEC, and other agency compliance
? Clear communication skills
? Ability to work across the organization.
? Microsoft Office
