Your Job Map
The Materials Planning Manager contributes to REI’s profitability by optimizing service levels through the availability of materials for apparel, gear, and bicycle products/models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.

Planning & Navigating Requirement
Strategy and Goals
? Partner with Senior Manager, Supply Planning to develop materials planning models which support sales and inventory goals
? Summarize and present seasonal analysis of material availability trends to cross-functional teams and external partners
? Define and drive 3-year Strategic plan for Materials Planning for Co-op Brands
? Own defining and bi-annual assessment of material lead-time benchmarks along with reduction strategy.
Forecasting
? Collaborate with Materials team to understand material mill strategy and materials allocation. Influence allocation based on strategic supply fulfillment models
? Share high-level long-range strategic forecasts with Tier 1 (T1) and Tier 2 (T2) vendors, based on Materials team strategy

Materials Planning
? Develop multi-season materials planning strategies across fabrics, trims, and hard goods components
? Create seasonal material commitments calendar in alignment with current product creation process
? Determine tiered materials commitments matrix to ensure optimal finished goods service levels and establish Tier 1 (T1) compliance
? Establish standard lead-times. Lead bi-annual lead-time analysis of materials and products with cross-functional teams to bring products into alignment with standard lead-times.
? Develop strong relationships with Product Managers and Merchandising Co-op Brands Planners to understand style strategy to inform materials planning decisions
? Work closely with Supply Planners to understand changes in style demand which may inform materials planning decisions
? Establish framework for material hedging opportunities leveraging Material Planning platform
? Coordinate closely with Tier 1 (T1) and Tier 2 (T2) to ensure materials commitments are taken by vendor as planned
? Participate as needed in key product creation process meetings to create a plan for any product changes that affect material planning strategy

In-Season Materials Management
? Monitor in-season materials consumption and make additional commitments based on consumption to ensure service levels as required by Tier 1 (T1)
? Manage seasonal vendor reconciliation process to maintain agreement with vendor on current material levels
? Own end-of-life strategy for materials based on shelf-life, obsolescence date, and product lifecycle; create and execute ramp-down strategy to exit material with as little waste as possible
? Develop liability material re-use strategy in coordination with Product Strategy to limit material waste and financial pay-out. Comprehensive re-use plan to include liabilities from materials planning, cancelled POs, SMS and other processes.

Reporting and Analysis
? Create robust multi-seasonal reporting to drive materials commitment decision-making and to provide transparency to material investment for cross-functional partners and Senior Leadership
? Drive KPI improvement through analysis and proactive resolution of material-related delays
? Manipulate/mine data from database tools (Snowflake, SQL server, Tableau) to create reports and analyses that drive planning decision making
? Identifies and adopts best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

Requirements:
? 8+ years’ related experience, preferably within apparel, footwear and gear industries, including supply or materials planning
? Bachelor’s degree in related field
? Comfortable and experienced in driving change and working with ambiguity and a large degree of independence.
? Uses deep understanding of demand & supply planning processes and BOM structure, determine optimal material commitment requirements across all product divisions
? Proven capability of operating with an entrepreneurial spirit.
? Ability to challenge the status quo - always looking at improving product and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details.
? Strong project management skills with proven experience in successfully driving major changes in processes/systems.
? Good communication skills, with individuals and large groups, enabling effective management of challenging situations in multi-cultural environments
? Understanding and effective execution of merchandising math principles: initial mark-up, gross margin, markdowns, shrink, damages, inventory turnover, open-to-buy.
? Influencing and negotiation experience/aptitude.
? Strong experience working with a leading supply planning solution such as Vanguard, JDA, i2, SAP, Manugistics, Logility,O9
? Strong capability in data retrieval, aggregation, and visualization tools - Tableau, Snowflake, Power BI, Business Objects
? Strong Computer skills in excel, word and necessary systems needed. Basic to intermediate SQL knowledge a plus
? Working knowledge and experience with SAP, O9, or other ERP system required
? Vertical consumer products planning experience.
? Acts upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals.
? Good English both oral and written.
