Journals publishing is a strategic priority for OUP. The global journals team is responsible for managing and developing our growing list of more than 450 journals.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented, experienced, and enthusiastic Consultant to manage and develop a list of China based journals. As part of the OUP journal team, this position will play a key role in fulfilling our ambitious plans for the growth of our journal programme in China.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage the list of journals and work collaboratively and productively with other functional journal groups (especially production, marketing, digital) to ensure smooth publication of the journals
• Work with journal editors and editorial offices closely to provide timely and professional publishing support to and maintain excellent relationships with our journal owners in China.  
• Create and implement strategic developing plans to achieve the editorial objectives and divisional goals of the journals, providing relevant data to inform editorial decision making
• Attend editorial board meetings, relevant conferences, industry events and internal meetings as required, prepare reports and present them to societies and editorial boards as appropriate
• Participate in or manage departmental projects and represent OUP journals as agreed to be appropriate
• Research, present for approval, and launch or acquire journals in your area of expertise
• Lead the transition/launch process for new journals.
• Roll out global OUP journal policies across the portfolio.

 

About You

Preferred qualifications:

• Master degree or above in STM areas
• At least 3-5 years journal-related experience, with good understanding of journals publishing, management and development, including editorial processes and requirements as well as those of other journals departments (production, marketing, sales, finance, customer service, online), business models, systems, industry trends, competitors, pricing strategies, quality metrics, technology and other relevant aspects
• Great communication skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate both internal and external parties including editorial contacts, society contacts, and colleagues throughout all journals departments
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Excellent English language skills
