Functional Skills/Knowledge
· Experience working effectively in a cross-functional team environment is essential.
· Detail-oriented, versatile, organized, articulate and professional.
· Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT), Bill of Material systems.
· Able to cope with constant change and competing priorities and ability to juggle several projects simultaneously.
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced product designer to provide solid modeling and prototyping support on our next generation of products by applying his/her creative and mechanical design abilities to create innovative products and detailed design solutions.
Accountabilities
The product category specializes in the design and development of products for high volume China manufacture, primarily in the consumer products and markets. Typical projects range from the design of novel appliances to specific sub systems. We combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team. Specific work assignments for this position range from conducting design studies to improve existing designs to the modeling of complete mechanical systems from the concept design (Industrial Design) stage
Responsibilities:
· Professionally design and develop innovative design solutions and products in a fast-paced team environment.
· Provide solid modeling and prototype support on technology development and new product development projects.
· Using sound engineering principles refine concepts into reliable designs that meet performance, compliance, product integrity and aesthetic requirements.
· Design for manufacturability, for China production environments.
· Generate part specifications, including detailed drawings and specifications.
· Communicate design to team members and China factories.
· Perform product prototyping and testing, write test requests and obtain quotes from internal and external sources.
· Support continuous improvement of existing products.
Experience
· Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
· 3-5 years experience in product development in high volume consumer products.
· 3D CAD proficiency, Min. 5,000 hours of Pro Engineer is required and the ability to work with complex surfaces. Knowledge of drafting practices.
Design experience in multiple processes such as: plastic injection molding, die-casting, sheet metal, machining processes, and assembly processes.
