Job Responsibilities:

1. Report to the Equestrian Affairs Project Manager and oversee the Retired Horse Unit.

2. Be fully responsible for the overall welfare of the horses in the Retired Horse Unit and manage the team of Stable Assistants (MSAs).

3. Ensure MSAs work effectively to manage the care of all horses, by following instructions accurately and efficiently.

4. Ensure horses are cared for and rehabilitated, consistently operating to the highest horse welfare and staff safety standards.

5. Work with the Veterinarians and Physiotherapists to manage the care and rehabilitation of all horses.

6. Apply and administer medicines and maintain medication dosage and stock records for billing and finance.

7. Monitor equine progress and feedback to the Veterinarians and the Equestrian Affairs Project Manager regularly.

8. Facilitate horses travel and stabling arrangements, ensuring arrangements are made in good time and are well prepared and facilitated with the highest standards of safety and horse welfare at all times.

9. Work in close collaboration with the Hong Kong Equestrian Affairs operational and administrative teams to achieve a high degree of synergy, cooperation and alignment on all matters.

10. Formulate and publish the monthly roster, assign job duties, maximise staff productivity and motivation.

11. In conjunction with the relevant administrator, maintain up-to-date and accurate records for staff attendance and leave management according to the Club’s Leave Management Policy and PRC Labour Law.

12. Adhere to and ensure MSAs follow the Club’s and the Equestrian Affairs Departmental Policies and Procedures, including safety practices and bio-security regulations.

13. Ensure timely reporting and follow up of all accidents and near misses.

14. Maintain the stables, equipment and facilities in good working condition. Ensure all equipment, hardware and software is in full working order and maintained to the highest standards at all times.

15. Work closely with Facilities Management team to rectify any property issues promptly and effectively to reduce risks of operations.

16. Perform any other duties assigned by the Equestrian Affairs Project Manager or senior management.

Job Requirements:

1. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in horse care and horse handling (ideally with Thoroughbreds).

2. Stable management qualifications such as BHS, RDB or equivalent are desirable.

3. Experience of equine rehabilitation would be an advantage.

4. Excellent horse knowledge, with a passion for horse care and rehabilitation.

5. Able to communicate to team members to produce high motivation and excellent results.

6. Be computer literate, ideally with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

7. Have integrity, be trustworthy, dependable, responsible, and accountable.

8. Be proactive, highly motivated, and demonstrate flexibility towards change.

9. Fluent in Mandarin, proficient in Cantonese and English.
