Summary of Position:

    

The Packaging Engineer will develop and implement original packaging concepts, including more complex designs, define proper material specifications, create detailed mechanical drawings and support documentation, assist with prototyping, testing and production of packaging components, and help identify and pursue cost-savings opportunities.

    

    

Responsibilities:

• Work within scope of the packaging development process and ensure understanding and appropriate use across organization on process, specifications, development and communication of all packaging components
• Immerse self in understanding our customers to design and communicate packaging solutions that meet our customers’ needs and expectations for our product and services
• Develop concepts to communicate design and packaging features that meet or exceed design parameters and other directives
• Collaborate with multiple teams both within and external to the organization to develop new packaging designs as well as maintain/update existing components
• Define material specifications and tolerances for packaging structures
• Meet deliverables on packaging projects while staying in line with resources and budgets
• Prioritize requests and deliverables to help implement and release packaging designs to production
• Create, detail and document mechanical drawings that will be used for prototyping and production
• Design and resolve packaging issue to ensure products are well protected and can pass packaging testing
• Identify and implement packaging cost savings
• Coordinate samples and external testing with Quality where required

                                                

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field required
• Minimum of 3-5 years in packaging engineering and development work
• Strong sense of teamwork, able to thrive in a team-focused environment
• Proven experience developing multiple types of packaging including corrugated and paperboard retail cartons, inner support structures, flexible packaging, plastic clamshells and blisters, and transport packaging
• Proficient in SolidWorks, Artios, or other CAD software, specifically in creating detailed files to be used for the production and documentation of packaging
• Experience with laboratory testing of packaging, have knowledge of ISTA standard is plus
• Drives for results and deadlines
• Good verbal and written communications skills in English, including proficient use of MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience developing packaging for the global marketplace

                                        

Accountabilities:

• Hit key Balanced Scorecard (BSC) metrics
• Hit key development dates for all areas within responsibility
• Integrate with New Product Development (NPD) process for successful product launches
• Help control costs to ensure department and corporate budget goals are met and/or maintained

                    

Relationships:

• Reports to Packaging Engineering Manager
• Strong relationships with Packaging Team, Creative Services Team, Marketing, Engineering, Categories, Other Internal Support Teams, Packaging Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers
